Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

the more I have been thinking about this.. the more I believe you are right on changing out the heads.. so if anyone has a set of 799 or 243 heads let me know! haha..
also if I want to bump my compression by using flat top pistons.. any suggestions on brand/type etc? I was hoping to leave the short block alone.. but if I do this thing.. I might as well do it right!
well.. I actually found a Machine Shop with a pretty decent reputation that has a horrible website who is I am in contact with right now and I think I have them convinced to let me rework their website for trade on all my cylinder heads work.. so if thats the case.. it'll save me probably $700-$800.. so that will free up money that I had for the heads to do the pistons
You can go up to .030 or so without really affecting intake mounting, people have gone more.
What really comes into play is pushrod length, especially with an aftermarket cam. Make sure to get a pushrod length tool before ordering pushrods...found out the hard way that calculated required length doesn't always come close to actual required length.
So I met with the machine shop today, these guys really seem to know what they are doing. gave me some pretty good advice.. the deal hasn't been completely set in stone, but the owner told me that I should milk the deal for what its worth haha.. so not sure what the extent of that is yet. so I am rebuilding their site basically from ground up and in return are going to exchange for work on my engine.
The head machinist suggested since I am not doing a crazy high performance race engine to basically stick with the 862 heads (unless i can get decent 243/799 CHEAP), they would do a full degrease and rebuild on them.. the only milling he suggested was if the gasket surface needed it.. valve job and then said a good set of springs for the added lift would be a good start.
he then suggested replacing the pistons.. and If I am going to do that.. might as well bore the cylinders out a bit and go a little bigger on the pistons.
now I'm not sure how much of this they plan on covering cost wise.. and how much I'll have to pay for yet.. still have to work out the final details.. but If I can get my engine done up for as cheap as possible.. I'm not gonna complain haha!
