Temp gauges in these cars are notorious for reading high. My car runs at about 170 verified through the PCM and the gauge shows 200ish.

In 4th gens the gauge and PCM are controlled by two separate sensors - one in the head and one in the water pump. Is it the same on 3rd gens?- Brian Meissen

Similar in 3rd gens, there is one in the cylinder head that goes to the gauge and then there is one on the top of the intake that is for the computer. The wire looks a little chard going to the cylinder head and could be making a bad connection and giving a false reading to the gauge.Originally posted by meissen View PostIn 4th gens the gauge and PCM are controlled by two separate sensors - one in the head and one in the water pump. That's where I was going - probably the sensor/wiring, not the gauge, that's the culprit.- Brian Meissen

I think all 3rd gen gauges were like that - my oil pressure gauge would frequently peg to 0Originally posted by meissen View PostThat's where I was going - probably the sensor/wiring, not the gauge, that's the culprit.
. I'd flick it, and it'd go back to normal.

The old water pump was by far bad. So I am glad I replaced all of that and the radiator is piece of mind as well, it was pretty brittle when I took it out.Originally posted by MP81 View PostSo the old parts may have been all right
Yes its the wiring, I am sure of it. I will rewire it later for now I am going to drive the crap out of it!Originally posted by meissen View PostThat's where I was going - probably the sensor/wiring, not the gauge, that's the culprit.sigpic

Yeah - it was probably original, the car had less than 100k when I got it.Originally posted by Darren View PostThe old water pump was by far bad. So I am glad I replaced all of that and the radiator is piece of mind as well, it was pretty brittle when I took it out.

She made it out to the WDC on Saturday with no issues!
Next on the list is that stupid gauge or sensor, that's a must figure out.
Then on to some suspension work to go along with being lowered. I would love to get my SFC welded on and hopefully will have some help from a buddy. But what else should I do for my car or would the stock setup be good?sigpic

yeah it sure does suck! No I dont have any suspension work to the car other then lowering springs at the moment. I was thinking about buying one of these http://www.foundersperformance.com/c...sion-Packages/ or looking for a good deal else where, just not sure its needed.Originally posted by MP81 View PostDo you have relocation brackets for the Rear LCAs?

That would be a solid package. The relocation brackets would be helpful in reducing wheel hop in lowered Fbodies.Originally posted by Darren View Postyeah it sure does suck!
