  • [Project] Project round two: 1992 Chevy Camaro

Insurance is coming off the car in the next week or 2 (although it hasn't been driven much in the past month) so the project will begin. Not too sure what direction I am going to go with this car since I bought it out of impulse of missing my old car so much. But for what I paid for it I know I couldn't go wrong as I could easily sell it for more then I paid.

    Details:

    1992 Chevy Camaro 25th Anniversary
    350/T5
    Edelbrock performer TBI intake
Hooker shorty headers into a flowmaster cat back
Built T5 (claims previous owner) Holding up really well but I am sure I will find out
    3.73 gears POSI rear

    Here it is:

These parts came with the car (after the sale)

    photo 3.JPG
    Edelbrock torker 2 intake
Cevette Cam (cant remember the specs) Brand NEW
    Brand New Springs
350 double hump heads (need to look at the year)
    Complete gasket kit

Car needs paint and some body work, has some areas of surface rust and one area of patched repair, car also has some pretty deep scratches on the drivers side. Clear is pealing on the rear deck lid and shows because of the stripes.

Car runs great and really strong, but have recently developed a "tick" I originally thought it was a loose rocker or something similar but turns out to be a exhaust leak and even a blown header gasket. Previous owner bypassed the heater core (I assume it leaks) so the car has no heat, I plan on tearing all the heat/AC and SMOG off the car very soon.

I also plan on spending most of the winter tearing into the engine with a few tasteful upgrades and beginning the same amount of body work I did on my previous car. I will then be looking for a painter or looking for someone to paint it on the side. I have considered painting it in my garage but we'll see.

    Opinions?

good ideal to go through the engine while its out. address the body and paint work in the spring if your doing it in your garage. You can spray in the garage, and have a show winning paint job. Its about the painter and more importantly the prep work. Good body and prep work will either make or break a paint job no matter the cost of materials.

if those steel heads are good, just use and work them a bit

Sounds like you could be pouring some serious cash into this thing this winter.

no those are the details as the car sits, not what he plans.

I know. Referring to KEN'S thread he was mentioning refreshing the engine, adding cam/heads etc..

Why do you say that? Besides paint and body work? Thats where the money will be at.

It's crossed my mine as well as just dropping a stock LS1 in it as well. Like I said not sure where I am going with this, just as the car sits it needs some attention and TLC

I already have cam/heads etc if I wanted to go that route, although I would need machine work on the heads I currently have.

I'm getting ready to pull the heater core and components as well as the AC and SMOG off the car since none of it is hooked up anyhow. I do not plan on running a AC delete or SMOG pulley, does anyone know what size belt I will need to run for the remainder pulleys? I ran a smaller belt on my old car when I replaced the SMOG but I know I will need a much smaller belt without both pulley's.

Gay? I'll remember that! You can come rip them off once its parked for the year and as soon as I am done working in your garage! I am sure a lot of our time this winter will be split between your garage and mine.

Looking forward to seeing the Chevelle on the road.

I have yet to get it on a public road. I keep finding little issues, like tonight I discovered my rebuilt alternator was not charging, turns out the wire going to one of the brushes broke. I hope to have most of the loose ends tied up next week.

                              Progress pictures!
