Kyle you are halfway right about the thermostat issue. Yes it is true that an enigne (especially a modern day engine) works better with some temperature. There is such a thing as thermal efficiency, but it falls off at both ends. It seems like you have been reading a lot about a 160* stat, yet dont really have any experience running one.
I have had both and looked at logs at both in real world situations. I have done it. For an LT1, a 160* stat is a good mod. It does not mean that the engine is going to run at 160, it runs about 180-195* LT1's get pissed when they get hot and that is the last thing you want one to do is to get hot. There is absolutely no difference in thermal efficiency between an engine running at 190 or 210. Remember Kyle, this is jsut the coolant temp. and a mere 20* difference in water temp (not a lot). I cant measure with a gauge but I would bet money that this will change the combustion temperature and egt's absolutely nothing.
Bottom line is a 160* stat is a good mod. And I am speaking from experience
