  • They will work, but OEM LT1 pistons use metric rings. Measure the ring land gaps.

    • His bottom end was rebuilt and I'm nearly positive those are the pistons that were used.

I know he's running aftermarket pistons, just need to verify ring thicknesses H597ACP is the LT1 version (metric ring) of their stock replacement pistons.

        • I know the 2256 is the number of the piston used and it is forged. Beyond that, I'm not sure if there is anything LT1-specific needed although I can't say I've heard of an LT1-specific part # for them. I think they did have a slight change in design over the years and/or change of branding but IIRC the measurements are the same.

          • Most of these seem to be multi branded - Sealed Power, Speed Pro, TRW, Federal Mogul, etc. If I remember right, the two sets I have used had the part number stamp etched into the top of the piston. Probably the easiest way to check

LT1 was just the change over to metric 2mm, 1.5mm, 4mm ring land pistons, they could still use the earlier 5/64", 5/64", 3/16" pistons. Just wanted to make sure, I thought I had a set of brand new rings on the shelf that would work...they are standard bore rings unfortunately.

            • Here are a couple of pics of the other head and piston:

As you can see, these were damaged as well, though not nearly as bad. The piston definitely needs to be replaced, and those two deep indents in the head need to be fixed.

                • I'm going to stick with forged pistons...no sense in having one stock piston and the rest forged.

                  • I only see the L2256F20 sold in set of 8. Summit has WL2256F20 sold individually, same specs on their site though. $43.99 each.

                      • I guess that's the one, then! Now I just gotta make sure I get the correct rings.

                        • Did a little shopping today. Ordered the second piston, rings, rod bearings, and head gaskets.

                              • Yep. Ddm tuning 4500k. I put them in the stock housing which is frowned upon since it blinds oncoming traffic but I never got flashed so I'm guessing I had them pointed to the ground enough.

I didn't drive at night very often but when I did it was so much better than stock lights.
