      • See if it'll turn at all with the plugs out and the cam not moving the rocker arms/putting pressure on the springs at all.

        • at first i just looseed the pushrods up and i still couldnt rotate it a full turn. so i removed the rockers all together and left the pushrods. now i can go all the way around, but i can still feel the spot where it gets stuck. tomorrow after work ill remove the lifter trays and lifters and see if it gets better. if not i guess im going to have to remove the motor again and open up the oilpan and investigate. anyone have any ideas?????

That sucks Mike. The reason I take a turning torque number every step of the build. That way you only waste an hour or two, not a full weekend tracing a problem.

              • Wait, do you already have the heads torqued? You can't get at the lifter trays unless the heads are off. But if you can turn it all the way around without the valvetrain moving it seems most likely that you're not lined up dot to dot.

                    • first make sure the valve is sitting on the cam base and not an intake or exhaust lobe, you'll know this when you turn the motor over and the rocker will be still, not opening or closing the valve. Then disassemble the rocker and retighten it down until its got no slack at all, then measure how many turns it take after that to torque to spec.

                      • well dots are still lined up. but if i watch as im rotating the crank, seems like the timing chain is binding up on the crank gear. im going to remove the chain and then try to turn everything individually.

                        • Guessing that is a new chain? Looks loose/stretched on the pass side and tight on the drivers side to me..

                          • what is behind the crank gear in the pic?

Also thats a pretty new chain I sold him last year, only about 5K on it they all seem to look like that.

                            • idk, the crank? ive never taken that gear off and havent ever removed the crank. i removed the chain though and when i turn it now, it still gets hung up to the point where i really have to put some ass into it to get it to turn. all the way around its grabby and in one spot it wants to get stuck. pushrods and rockers arent even in the heads

                              • Does it get hung up when spinning the crank or the cam or both?
