you will be fine driving it to the dyno, my first H/C swap started right up and drove pretty damn good for a stock tune. Just baby it and get it there in one piece.

Yep I drove mine out all the way to Macomb but only because I had no choice. Didn't hurt anything. Changed the oil and filter right after the tune though, only had 140 miles on it. I'm running 0w40 Mobil 1 and absolutely no sewing maching noise. Valvetrain sounds stock.

Your valvetrain should sound stock if you use the right sized pushrods. Some of the new aggressive cam lobes make a bit more noise but it still shouldn't be that loud.
Yes it will start up and it should be able to find a decent idle after a few seconds. Yes you can drive it around a bit. It will be very rich at idle and very lean in the upper RPMS. You wont hurt anything by driving the car around. Just stay away from WOT blasts until its tuned.

some more parts came in the mail today. so most of tomorrow ill be working on the bird. anyone wanna come give a hand, lol? think im going to paint the intake and valve covers the blue that is on the ls1 on the cover of the new GM high tech magazine. looks good in the pic, hopefully it looks good on my motor, guess i can always repaint it a flat black if i dont like it. so all i need now are pushrods, stall, fluids, and a tune. seems like a lot but ive done more then what i should have at one time.sigpic

ive got everything but the coil packs and knock sensor harness plugged in. coil packs have to wait until i get the pushrods. i cannot seem to find the other end of the knock sensor harness. does it come form the drivers side or passenger side? i cant believe i cannot find where it plugs into.sigpic

well got my pushrods today, installed them and afterwards tried to spin the motor by hand to make sure everything moved correctly. come to find out the motor gets stuck (stops) so that must mean that my dots werent lined up correctly?? they looked perfect. what im wondering is this.... was i supposed to find top dead center on #1 cylinder then line the dots up. why are my valves hitting the pistons? if thats whats actually happening.......sigpic

7.4 yes, checker wont fit into the pushrod holes in my head because the locknut is too big, 3 layer metal headgasket from gm, and as far as i know, the heads arent milled, we got ours at the same time. i dont remember setting #1 to tdc, if im even supposed to, but seems right, lol. so yeah shitty, now i get to tear into it again, in the car now. i dont know, im getting worried with meet and greet just 5 weeks away.sigpic

I just lined up my dots and double checked that they were lined up when I got the cam in, then I loosely bolted one of the new heads on on top of an old gasket and checked for ptv with some shitty clay that didn't work. When nothing hit I figured I'd be alright..."clay" wasn't tightly compressed in any spots. My guess is that you don't have it lined up dot to dot. I would check and make sure that you can't do anything with the pushrod checker first, like just take the locknuts off of it. Sucks but it's better than destroying valves.
