Sorry to see the end result but it beats other things that could of been wrong. I think it would be pretty smart to re-ring while you have it all apart. I don't see why you couldn't make it out this year though. It's time more than anything and I'm sure a few westside guys would be more than happy to help. The parts themselves shouldn't cost much at all.

I'm sorry to hear of your luck Mike but I do agree with Tom, doing it right now will save you from really doing some damage if you just threw it together and ran it like it was.

Send me a PM when you get all your parts and plan on putting it together Mike. I am planning on heading up to Silver Lake for a Saturday but would be willing to drop by Sunday to help out.

well took the shortblock down to the machine shop because he told me he would charge me $100 to do the bearing for me. well as soon as he seen the crank he said it needed to be turned, which means the bearings i bought will be wrong. he also noticed that the cam bearings could be replaced. he also put his hand on a piston and moved it back and forth and said they would need to be measured because it seemed like more play then he liked. so..........
im going to let him do the whole rotating assembly with forged pistons and new rings, new rod and main bolts and new cam bearings. is it true the 98 blocks cant be bored .30 over?? he said they make a piston that is slightly larger then stock that is the option. does $1800 sound about right to do shortblock or should i get another opinion?? basically the car is not going to make it out this year...........sigpic
