Call it dumb but I think I'm going to run stockers (obviously upgraded springs, rockers etc) until next winter.

He put a new timing set on too! I have some junk pics on my phone but I'll get some up when I get it on the stand. Where can I get a new oil pan? What brand oil pump should I get? Also I'm going to get the white spring too.

          • Stock heads are okay. You might want to do a valve job. I used a high volume melling pump. The white spring is to convert a standard volume to a high volume, so if you buy a high volume you shouldn't need the white spring.

              Oh, I didn't know that.

What will a valve job run me? This is all new to me.

              • A few years ago when I did my hot cam I had a 3 angle vavle job done and I want to say it was around $ 180 - $ 200, but I really can't remember. If you call Lloyd he will tell you which way to go with your stock heads.

Would it hurt going a summer on the ones I have? I would hate to sent them out just to send them out again in the fall again for the porting.

                      • correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it is advised in the LT1 world to not use a high volume pump with a stock pan is it not?
                        Doing less with more

Correct. If you have a stock pan just put in the white pressure relief spring. Otherwise you risk sucking the pan dry.

If you're interested in some fresh heads I have some here sitting in bags. Fresh valve job, springs from the LT4 Hotcam kit. They are also I believe the 643 castings, I know whatever casting they are, they were ones that were good for porting.

How much do you want? What lift are the springs good up to?

I'll get the white spring. Should I go with a new stock pump? Also I was going to get that pickup tube that bolts on to the pump, I might end up welding it too.

I was looking up pan prices and a new stocker is $117. Looks like I'll just clean up my stocker. I think I'm going to invest in a parts washer from harbor freight.

                            • a parts washer will do wonders for the stock pan, and most other parts.

I would just run a new stock vol/pres pump. Although I HIGHLY doubt your doing to suck your pan dry. I just ran a stock vol/pres milodon pump on my 383 and oil pres is not a problem.
