  • [Project] I bought my old 93 Z28 back, now it needs some TLC

Well here is the story if you haven't seen my other thread.

This was my first Camaro at age 17. It was a 1993 Chevrolet Z28 Camaro. I purchased it for $4,500. I loved the thing, at the time. Well it was time to move on to a better car after owning it for just over a year.

The car was MINT, i had taken very good care of it (oil changes, washing/waxing, vacuum, etc)

I bought it with 89,xxx miles on it. This is what she looked like

I did a few small things, tint, caliper paint, EBAY (yeah i know) intake, and I cut the muffler off (sounds great). Thats pretty much it. I didn't have extra money to dump into it.

Well my buddy was real interested in the car and I knew I wanted a LS1. Well I ended up selling it to him, for $4,000 with 112,xxx miles on it.

.... Here is what it looks like after 2 years and 23,xxx miles later.

Well, needless to say every fender or bumper has some type of paint chipping, or dents or even cracks!

      hood needs to be replaced
both doors skins are coming apart from the shell
      front bumper needs repainting
      rear bumper needs repainting
both rear quarters have dents with creases
      front left fender has crack
dent on rocker panel (pass side)

First thing first is I am going to repaint the entire car, I am not sure if I want to go with the same color, I am going to have to do some type of body work on every panel except the doors which i can use some body adhesive. But if I stay with this color I wont have to worry about the door jambs. The engine bay will be painted regardless when I pull it for the cam.

Luckily the good part is I am almost certified for Auto body repair. So I will be able to save TONS of money and time doing it myself.

Well, one way of looking at it is if her wants to do the same to the bike as he did to the car, he's gonna have to share battle scars with it.

                            Thanks everyone!

Yes, lots of work to do, but I have plenty of time to do it.

After I fix the body, I have 2 choices...

                            A) Take it to the track and see how good of a E.T I can get with it being close to stock, previous owner got best of 14.1. with 2.1 60's. But I want MY own time slip.

                            B) Rip the engine out. Cam/ Maybe heads/ Intake, LT's, Dumped TD's, Electric water pump, plugs, Trans work (costly?), suspension. Leave the rear until i goes.

                            Suggestions?

Here is a list of parts I am going to need. Now just because im listing it, doesn't mean if you have it ill jump on it. These are some parts I am going to get overtime. I am still a broke college kid

                            STOCK hood (doesn't matter color)
                            Plastic headlight holder
Smooth elbow for intake (prefer metal aftermarket one)
Stock corners (ill trade my clears straight up)
Passenger side seat belt thingy (keeps the seatbelt out of you face, screws into the seat)
LT's (the cheaper the better)(supporting stuff, o2 extentions etc)
                            Any suspension parts (aftermarket)
Trans build kit? (dont know anything about this)
Down the road (cam prolly the GM847, Stall ~2500ish, LT4 worth it?, supporting cam mods (1.6rr's, gaskets, hardend pushrods etc)
                            TD's dumped (cheaper the better)
                            Electric water pump
                            A/C delete belt
                            UDP (worth it?)
Pillar guages w/ 2 guage pod
                            CAI
                            Slicks
                            Light gray headliner (no ttops)

I am trying to keep the outside as sleeper as possible, I have my 99 LS1 for the looks (i know its backwards, but the 99 is in MUCH better shape)

I plan on getting the car weighed before I do any weight reduction and then getting it weighed after.

The A/C will be deleted, inner fender skirts will have quite a bit cut away, probably leave interior stock.

                            Questions:

Will my Pro kit fit on the LT1? If so I will most likly put that on there and get strano or something for the LS1.

I want to take the center counsel apaprt to see how much crap is under it, I am going to extract the carpets. Anythign to worry about? How do I get the shift handel/button off?

                            Any sugestions??

removing the shifter handle is easy, there should be a pin in the front of it toward the dash, you just remove that and it pulls off. Also a good suggestion would be to get it to Ubly this saturday for a baseline
