In that case I would just freshen up the motor and get the trans gone over or rebuilt and throw in a nice converter. You shouldn't skimp on any parts so try and make it a quick bolt-on car until you can save up for some good valvetrain and a cam. Just my .02

          • If you want a mild and cheap cam - the LT4 hot cam can't be beat for what you get in the package for the price.

            • since you have the motor out take the heads and have them checked and put the heavier springs on there. then your ready for cam or 1:6 roller rockers, or both. the only cheap way is stay stock. maybe put headers on it. new head and intake gaskets.
next step up in cost would be valve guilds checked for wear, and new seals, then you might as well go with springs while its apart. then when you get money do cam and roller rockers, that can be done without pulling engine and taking engine all apart
Each step will cost you 5-1000 dollars at least.
Step 1. heads redone about 3-400 dollars, gaskets and fluids another 200. and springs will vary but atleast 2-400. and as cheap insurance push rod guilds 25.00.
Step 2. Cam, and rollor rockers, 5-600. push rods 100. misc 200.
most prices I quoted were from memory when we did B's car but it gives you some cost idea's to form a plan. Not all of us can dump 2-3000 in a build at once.

Not a bad idea either but I would like to get a bigger cam on account of not wanting a bigger one with in a year.

ok, thanks for the prices, I also have to count in around 1,500-2k in bolt on's, including phb, sfc's, lca's, torque arm, drive shaft loop, springs. Then electric water pump, LT's, TD's, intake.

PLUS, I have the body work to do yet which is going to be around 1k.

Why can't this hobby be cheaper? lol...

                • Yeah unfortunatly going real fast in an f body is only "cheap" if you can drop 5-6K with no problems, and that's just a start. To be honest with you if I could do it all over again I would get that trans built, throw in a nice converter and then buy a 9" and some drag radials before I even swapped out my paper filter.then work off of what you can afford, going fast in a relatively stock motor'd car should be decently easy and breaking parts shouldn't be as likely.

                      • Depending on how the paycheck goes, might settle with the LT4 kit.

Where can I get full gaskit kit from? What am I looking at for a price?

                        Thanks!

                        • BTW, I was looking at some of the papers of when I FIRST owned the car. The previous owner gave me (so 2 years ago when I got it)

He wrote down that it has a "prom" chip.... and also a B&M shift kit. How can I prove these are on the car? What the heck is a prom chip? Is it just a tune for the computer?

And no the car doesn't shift hard 1-2

                          • You might be suprised at this! I found it cheaper to by the gaskets seperate than in a kit. go to oreillys they sell felpro and best prices.
