  • What rpm are you hitting peak up Sean. This is my main concern. unless he also has a unlimited budget to replace rods and pistons.
I understand you running smaller turbos.

    • im set to go to about 6500rpms..

the biggest issue mike will have is your going to have to give and take bc you cannot get the best of both worlds.. if you want mileage go with a 3.00 but its also going to slow the car down quite a bit.. i can cruise the highway with my 3.50's and a th400 with one less gear then him and yeah it may be about 33-3500 rpms.. but i can stick knock down 15-16 mpg's.. with a 4 speed and much lower rpms he could easily get 18-20.. and if someone wants to ***** about that in a turbo car... then you should not have the car in the first place... end of story.. because we didnt buy these for mileage.. everyone knows that

      • Also I want to say I'm not trying to be cross. I completely understand there much newer technology since I was into the turbos last. And I'm man enough to state I don't know everything. but this isn't my first go around either with a motor and a turbo LOL.

so explain to me how a 3.50 gear ratio is not a very streetable gear on a turbo car then? bc i fail to see you show any proof of this when im giving you my proof of how it is, and with it being in a car with a trans with one less gear then mikes

          • Definately more about power and fun then mileage. Was just trying to find a middle. Im down for the 3.50s. Ive built this car over and over to beat on and have fun and it being broke, whether its motor or trans, is proof im not nice to it. I want to be able to blow the tires off it at will or be able to go sideways when i want

              Well here is his request.
              1. Streetable
              2. Durable
              3. Cost is a factor.
So if he gos with a 3.50 gear there is a large chance that he will spin the engine rpms higher than the rods and pistons will like. Higher the gear the higher the max hp vs. Rpm generally is.
Now that can be adjusted with turbo size. But with that gear he may loose his durability due to rpm.
He could fix this with a custom turbo yes. My question here is how streetable dose the car need to be. Daily driver/ is this a car that will see a lot of track time. Or just a weekend driver.
And the bigger question of all, what all is he going to do to the motor?
Most everyone chooses a 3.08 or a 3.23 gear even with larger turbin turbos. A lot of track car choose 3.50 gears so they are farther out of the hole before boost sets in. Thus top end car.
That's all I'm getting at. The 60e trans also has a better over drive gear than a 80e. You will see lower final drive rpms out of a 60e than a 80e.

Hope you see what my consern is now. Like I said not trying to be cross with anyone.

              • Wont be a daily driver but as often as possible. Definately weekends and only a handful of track days. Once a month possibly during race season? As of right now only rod bolts but researching going forged bottom end.

May I ask how far into the motor you plan on going. And will your budget allow a good turbo. I have nothing against the 3.50 gear. Its just more of a track gear in my eyes.

If you do some bottom end tweeking then I'm right with Sean and everyone else. The 3.50 gear will be a load of fun. Rpms and durability was my only concern. I also agree with Sean on the 3.25 gears, they are noisy.

Planning at least a turbonetics. One priced near $800 from jonny as of right now, maybe a better one by the time I actually get with jon on it

I know its not the best but should work ok

Sounds like you are right on with a 3.50 gear as long as your not against doing some mods to the bottom end. Or maybe loosing some durability if you don't.

                        • 3.50 should be around 2w00 at 70 and 131ish at 6000 at the track
