    • Not worth it. Its already 80% back together after last night no turning back now. I was replacing the gasket as a routine maintenance on a 32 year old truck but at this point im going to wait until it becomes a problem.

      • How did you get the cam to not turn with the rockers still on and the chain off?

I was very careful. Before i removed the original timing set it was clear there was not any tension on the chain at all in either direction. Maybe i got lucky. So i popped it off and popped the new set on without disturbing anything. Dots appear to be in the exact position they were originally i took pictures.

            • Been driving the truck all over the place since friday night when it finally emerged from the garage. Running great. Gauge reads cooler than before. I used a 180 tstat and its running at a steady 155 on the gauge now. i think the gauge is inaccurate im getting better mileage now than when it was running at 180 and my engine bay seems less "toasty" than it was before. Im on the third drain and refill of the radiator still working on getting the rest of the crap out... it really needed a flush. Need to get some pictures of everything back together. Dual exhaust coming soon so i hear that *****in 305 roar!

                  • More issues bubbling to the surface. Speedometer cable seems like it needs to be taken apart and lubricated. Not a big deal, but the needle is a little shaky around 25mph. Also my fan clutch bit the dust and locked up last night. I didnt replace it with the waterpump because it looked new. And on top of those things it was sputtering on me at low rpm a few times last night, not sure where the heck that came from but hoping its just a symptom of the extra load of the fan being locked up or the hot/humid temps but it was running great earlier this week in the heat old vehicle fun i guess!

I was filling up yesterday and one of those god-awful abominations of an SUV that is a Lexus GX 460 (the new even-uglier one) started up with the unmistakable roar of a clutch fan. Shook my head and had to laugh.
