  • Yeah, that makes sense - it would be weird to have, on, say, an LT1, only half of the throttle body open until you hit a certain throttle point.

The 400HP systems are only $800...that's not too bad at all. I'm also interested in putting a wideband in mine, to see exactly what this thing runs like - with the new cluster, I'd be able to display that on the screen, actually.

    • yeah theyre pretty reasonable. Its even an easier process with their fuel command center which ramps up the price a fair amount but seemed to be worth it.

      • With the stock air-induction cover on mine, you'd likely never even see it. Yours might be visible, only because everything is at eye level - even so, it's a nice looking piece.

        • I think the air cleaner would hide 90% of it. The average person probably wouldn't have a clue, the fuel center would be the most "non-stock" thing in the engine bay.

            • In the Dodge we have this mounted in the corner of the engine bay. Basically you feed it with the factory mechanical low pressure fuel pump and acts as a small "buffer" tank with an internal pump to pressurize the fuel to what the fitech needs.

              • Oh, ok - so it's essentially a giant fuel pressure regulator.

Can that be avoided by using an electric pump?

                • Well it increases the pressure instead of decreasing it so kinda... but yes it has a regulator also.

Yes you can also use an inline pump, they have some documentation about the different types of setups you can do. This is one of the easiest especially in our case with trucks that have dual tanks.

                  • Right, since the mechanical makes a whopping, what, 9psi?

Yeah, I could see the hassle with that - two pumps then are needed...bit of a pain there.

                    • It still can be done with the inline method im pretty sure, but the command center is so easy. The hardest part is mounting the dumb thing. Other than that you just run the carb line to it and connect the high pressure line and its so stupidly easy to set the entire EFI up it almost feels like youre cheating on a girlfriend

You defintiely would have plenty of space for the fuel center. I barely have enough room for the engine in the engine bay, so I think I'd have to go with an electric pump out back.

                        • Why not just crate up the old 305 and put it in a corner of the garage? drop a 350 in and enjoy it, and if you ever sell or return the truck to stock you still have the numbers matching original engine

                          • Thats pretty much what im going to do Sam. The other thing that sucks about it though is im already lacking storage space. But this 305 is such a dog the writing is on the wall. I might try tweaking the carb some this spring but I'm basically at the point I don't want to invest any more time into it. I've already put way more time into it than the average person would and it just doesn't want to perform. I don't expect or need it to be a triathlon athlete, but something a little better than an 80 year old man sliding into a bathtub would be nice.

                              • I fully agree.

If I do the crate 350 (scratch that, WHEN i do a crate 350) I'm going to use a fitech injection setup, a new distributor, headers, and ZZ4 intake manifold and that combination even with its ultra low compression should make more than double what this 305 is making. Amd with a quarter of the drama.

Speaking of drama, the slow drip from my (recently replaced) rear main / input seals has now evolved into the more advanced "leave a puddle everywhere" stage. Sigh...
