Sounds like my issue with the Cav now that the exhaust is fixed - I can't actually tell if it's started or not.

So ive got about 150 miles on the truck. Overall still very happy with it but im not yet 100% trusting of it. I am convinced the timing is most definitely sub-optimal and i believe it is the explanation for the rough idle and often lazy-feeling throttle. still need to do the plugs and i ordered a timing light and vacuum gauge to get it dialed in better. The distributor also concerns me. There were two cams for the vacuum advance with tiny springs that had surface rust on them... Not sure if thats something i should trust... Might look into a rebuild kit or new distributor.

Anyone ever do a clutch on 4x4 before? Apparently the new clutch he put in was a real gem.... Already making throwout bearing noises or like the pressure plate is loose after 1500 miles... Just started this yeaterday. Yay projects.

Seems my problem was not the throwout bearing or clutch, but in the trans

No I separated them if I remember correctly.

Yeah i took everything out as one piece, big mistake!!! Its a muncie sm465 and its way heavier than it looked. I can drag it around the garage floor but I cant lift it from the ground at all.

Hoping to drop the trans off monday for an inspection. I know this is a truck trans that likely has sloppy tolerances but this doesnt seem within spec to me

What i ended up finding is the previous owner was using motor oil in the trans (we believe 10w-30) instead of the 80w-90 gear oil that should have been in there. So after all this work, the right fluid might be all it needed if that oil didnt do a number on the bearings while it was in there... Hence why im going to have it inspected while its apart.

Boost Addict helped me do the oil pan gasket and spark plugs friday night. The original cork gasket was rotted and all the bolts were finger tight. Hopefully this takes care of the oil leak. The rear main looks good from what i can see, but not much i can do with the 2 piece anyway. Engine was very clean inside other than some debris in the bottom of the oil pan. Spark plugs were as the previous owner told me... Looked original and in definite need of replacement.
