                I will need a cowl hood anyway more than likely. Hood clearance is the official contributing factor to my engine failure

                  Really how is that? Isnt the cable usually beneath the air cleaner?

                    Same thing mine is doing... Almost drove into a few cars tonight until the throttle cable broke... Trying to fit this stuff under a flat hood is damn near impossible.

                      are you guys using factory throttle cables on an aftermarket carb set up ? Maybe aftermarket throttle cable, brackets, hardware and return spring is needed



                      edit: Darren, did your "cable" break or was it the plastic end piece ?

                        Wish I knew. The po had all that sorted out. All I know is I was bending air cleaner studs on the daily. The top of my air cleaner is all dented up.

                          that explains why my 86s would stick too until i cut the bottom o the filter out.

                                Good work today Mike, thanks for letting me come down and lend a hand. From what we learned about this motor today I dont thin this is a bad thing. Your car is too nice to clean for that junk! Just make up your mind which direction you want to go mild or wild and she will be back spring of 2015.
