taking advice from darren, were all doomed =) but yea that looks like a cluster**** happened, blown intake gaskets and headgaskets? and what else did a valve drop and start slapping the head or did heat variation cause the piston to start cracking or something?

Sucks that it happened, but I'm sure you'll get your car back on the road by spring 2015.

I'm going to get back in the garage and keep dismantling the block after work. Then I can clean up and get to cracking on the engine bay. I've realized that there is a huge to-do list with this car before spring.

So far I have some third gen parts for sale. Make offers.
                - non adjustable pan hard bar (custom made)
                - stock LCA's that have been reinforced with bar stock welded in - attached to relocation brackets
                - 91-92 bowtie grille - had holes in it, i poorly body worked them over. will need to be sanded flush and painted
                - alternator - ugly, but works, serp belt pulley
                - 10 bolt rear, drum brakes, 3.23 gear (i believe). Still in car, but will soon be available.
                - grey cloth door panels - cards only - been sitting in my garage, may have wicked up a little water.

I'll update the for sale pile as I dig into the engine. Heads are not salvagable.

Bad headache today so I had to stop. Got the block stripped aside from cam, crank, and flywheel. I need to get a balancer puller.

Cylinders look good. I might have gotten lucky!

5.3 twin snail to replace it?

o·vr·kill [oh-ver-kil]1. an excess of what is required or suitable, as because of zeal or misjudgment.

I'd be cool with a single snail! I'd have to see some pricing breakdowns. Before I do anything I want to have somebody who knows their stuff look at my block and components to tell me what's good and what is not. I'd be all for going to LS but there is extra work in the fuel system. I don't want to open pandoras box like other 3rd genners that I know lol

I'll take a few days to figure out what direction I want to take because my lower back is smoked after working the past few days. Tall people / lowered car problems.

Budget is in mind because I still need to paint the 49 before spring.

eh pass on the 5.3 snail idea, you will open pandora's box doing that, you'll miss next season for sure.

Pick a crate out and lets get going...

Turbo 5.3 would be damn cool but probably not worth the work for what you want. SBCs can make good power on the cheap and easy id probably stick with that.

Just have to save up for the engine amongst a few other things like MSD system, clutch, serp system.
