The car is fighting me today. Went to put together the rear end and turns out I need new u joints pressed into the drive shaft. Tons of play. No biggie.

Go to install my alternator brackets with the supplied hardware. Too big. So I go to Lowe's and get a 5/16 bolt. Too small, but it did help me discover the problem. Some of the powder got down into the threads of the water pump.

I go run a tap through there to clean the threads out and all is good. I go to install the bracket to test fit. Bingo. I pull the bolt out. Snap. Now I need a new water pump. FML

Further investigation shows the po cross threaded the hell out of the wp.

Ordered a new one. Got a ton of wiring done. Waiting on new parts. Hope to have it fire next week.

Nope I spent the extra cash to get endurashine. To clear the air it was NOT the powder. It was the previous redneck owner that also used wood screws to fasten the oil pan

This problem was sitting there waiting to be found, and had to be dealt with sooner or later. Frustrating, but it's behind you now. Glad the progress continues.

It'll get there. I'm hoping to get it moved to mom's garage before my driveway gets torn out. I've got two weeks!

Made a little progress. Found some new hardware and got the alternator mounted along with the new water pump. While I was at it, I test fit the carb and air cleaner. The engine looks like it sits higher which isn't a good thing given my tight hood clearance. Does anybody know of a drop base air cleaner that accommodates edelbrock electronic choke?








See, I'm using a half inch spacer to clear the choke piece. Edelbrock 1406.

I know all about your troubles... Want to test fit mine? I got it from brain its a 1970 Corvette drop base... You can buy many different ones this is the one that had the biggest drop that I could find in all my research.

If you look close its a wider base, and my choke actually fits up inside the drop. It clears everything. Only down fall is the filter actually sits lower then the carb. I know I am robbing my engine of air but the flat hood fits.

I think thats it, aftermarket piece. I'll bring mine down to you and we can see how it looks. I need to come get a few things from your garage anyhow. But It works, and I havent had any trouble and clears everything.

Quick question as to what I'm doing wrong here. I have two ports that (I think) need plugging. 1/4 pipe is what I'm attempting to use. These were not plugged prior so I don't know the appropriate size. My plugs start to thread in and the second I put a little torque on it, the pop out. What's going on here?

Those aren't oil ports, those are for the old Z bar bracket (manual clutch linkage)

So will I be ok leaving them unplugged? If not, are you aware of the thread to block it off.
