The Pontiac crowd typically frowns on a transplant(non-Pontiac) in anything before 1982.

                Pulling the 326 out!

Yesterday Joel and Mike came over to help get the engine out and things went pretty smooth except for TEH DUALS kept getting in the way

Got the engine out and thought... "ok now what? where do we put it?" Luckily just happened to have a very expensive 21" Camaro tire with a pallet staple in it, so that worked out perfect as a temporary engine stand to take the massive powerglide trans off

Thanks again for all your help Mike and Joel!

                Enjoy the pic PIXORZ!

                  Tear Down: Part 1

Took the engine home today with Kolin's help and got the itch to tear into a bit.

As far as we know, this is the original engine to the car and has never been touched since it left the factory back in 1967 (66). What we found, in my mind confirms this. This thing is caked with sludge and I can't wait to throw it in the hot tank to get cleaned up!

For reference, the odometer reads around 47,xxx miles. It could be rolled over, but hard to tell not knowing how the prior owners used the car. There is some decent rust on the rear floor pans, but I think we can remedy it with some wire wheel attention and some under coating... a project for NEXT winter.

                  Enjoy the PIXTURZ

Looks like you guys had a blast.

What kind of oil has been in it? I assume just plain 5W-30?

It was pretty exciting pulling the valve covers and the valley cover. This project has been a blast so far!

Definitely have my work cut out for me on cleaning up brackets and researching how these things looked when they came out of the factory (though we are going to keep the chrome valve covers and add a chrome air cleaner)

                          Other progress:

                          1. Ordered a new engine bay wiring harness last night
                          2. Working on lining up a shop to do all the machine work
                          3. Dropping the transmission off for inspection/rebuild this week
                          4. Dropping the radiator off for a pressure test and flush this week

This is a fun project for sure, can't wait to continue later this week. So much easier doing this when the engine is out of the car!

Also, my dad says the cam looks "burned". Going to see if it's still within spec enough to have it polished out. Good/bad idea?

I'd personally set the cam and lifters (marked, of course) to the side and buy a cam/lifter kit, about 200 bucks. Better design and good insurance IMO
