Just going off what Richard told me. He's been doing this for a while and sees a lot of engines run through his shop. Not discrediting you, but all I have to go off right now is what he told me.

Good to know, but I think he'll stand behind his work for much longer than that. He's a stand up kinda guy. He wants us to put plenty of miles on the car before my dad takes it out to PA and back to make sure there aren't any issues.

Well, light blue... but we took the VIN number to a paint shop over on Grosbeck and they mixed up the period correct color and put it in aerosol cans.

DJ's 170k mile 5.0 in his Fox Body was factory stamped. We noticed that before we sent the engine to the machine shop.

                Valve covers... polished!

Spent a little time tonight buffing out the old chrome valve covers. I think they turned out pretty well!

                What I started with...

The one on the left is DONE, the one on the right was just brightened with a little never-dull and some elbow grease

I used the never-dull first just out of curiosity to see if they'd clean up well enough for me to put some effort in really buffing them on the buffing jack. Sure enough, they didn't look too pitted and didn't have any peeling chrome, so buffing really took them to the next level.

                Finished pics...

I also sand blasted the alternator bracket to get it ready for paint. It will be painted light "Pontiac" blue to match the rest of the engine.

                Before...

                After...

Not sure, I'll have to check with my old man My dad dropped off the new paint yesterday, so I'm guessing it's been sprayed. they were going to do 2 coats of gray primer and 2 coats of color. They don't normally use a primer, but they said the blue looked a little light, so a gray primer would help darken it a bit.

I've been every year since 1995. It's a blast. I look forward to it all summer. Huge car show/swap meet/ and drag racing all day.

Had the carb rebuilt - pics below. I dropped it off to Richard at State Motors and he either rebuilt it, or had it rebuilt. I was pretty happy to see he was able to keep the tag in place.

Is this the kind of finish/appearance they had from the factory?
