        Tear Down: Part 2

Tonight we spent a few hours tearing the engine down and getting it ready to take to the shop. We've decided to leave the short block assembled, and let the engine shop disassemble, dip and reassemble with new components rather than assembling it in the garage (just don't have the time). Once we get the short block back and have the heads machined, we'll slap it all together and paint it... or paint it then slap it together. Either way it will need to be painted as a whole when it's completely assembled to have the bolt heads painted.

Spent a few minutes vacuuming out the sludge from the valley... shop vac must be 5 lbs heavier

Current shops in the running for short block work: D&S Engines and State Motors as suggested. Looking to drop it off by the end of the week.

        Hiccups so far:
        - Driver's side head won't come off...
        - Dropped the oil pump drive shaft, need to order a new one
        - Rounded-off an exhaust manifold bolt

Other than that - things are going great. Enjoy the pics!

              Small Update:

Called both D&S Engines and State Motor Rebuilders and got verbal quotes on a full rebuild (Just wanting this thing back in 1 piece ready to paint and drop in). State Motors was half the price of D&S, which is fine, but I'm going to call Autobohn tomorrow for a 3rd quote.

Any other shops I should consider?

Where do you see any stampings? All the markings I see are raised from the cap, which are part of the casting.

Exactly the picture that caught my eye, then I noticed them in a couple different pics. If you come to Lowell, hit me up. There is another shop here in town that does one off intakes for NASCAR and other high end motors. Never heard of it until the other night, I want to check out the shop for myself as well Tiny town, who would have thought?!

Baldwin Automotive In pontiac (right down the street from great lakes mall on baldwin road) PH number 248 335 1518

They did my machine work on my block, and machined my crank. I would atleast give them a call.

Good project btw, amazing how simple these old cars are.

                              Oh boy...them...

You have to keep on them every second of every day...DJ used them twice for his Mustang and they took forever!!! Did a good job, just took forever.
