    • ok running into a couple issues with the car. First I have this terrible header leak that has seemed to come back from last season its really pissing me off. Is it possible that this header is warped? Second, also header related how can I better protect my wires from being fried all the time, I am tired of replacing wires! I already asked Bri and he said something about wire sock? Need to wrap my headers as well? I have tried re routing the wires a couple different ways, cant seem to find something to protect them better.

      • I had a header warp on my gto warp once. Gave me a ticking noise that drove me crazy. Ended up just replacing the headers and fixed the problem. I use these on my plug wires and have had zero issues: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...1810&ppt=C0379

          • DEI boot socks are some of the best I've tried. Also, for a header gasket, I always had great luck with Earl aluminum/graphite on SBC's.

            • Are your header bolts tight? I know I always had one bolt that would never stay tight on my Edelbrocks on my IROC. Didn't leak though.

I am going to re check again tomorrow night (anniversary today) but I tightened them up again on sunday, drove the car 1.5 miles and the leak was worse then before... I think something else is up and its not just going to be a "easy" fix. I think new long tube are in order which = a new exhaust. However I am now torn if I should just pull the motor. I really wanted to enjoy it for another month tho...

                  Happy anniversary man!

Hmm, so perhaps it sounds like the header gaskets then...have you pinpointed the area it's leaking out of?

Thanks, and yes. It happened at the end of last season, I pulled the bolts and replaced the header gaskets as well as the header bolts. Now it is doing it again from the same spot, the passenger side all the way back on to the fire wall.

Hmm, interesting...maybe pull that header and make sure the face is true?

Locktite the header bolts into the heads? I believe they have lock washers, I would have to check to confirm tho.

                          • Yeah I'd be afraid of the bolts getting stuck in the heads.

exactly my thought, more likely the header is warped, or how often do these header bolts want to back out?

                              • my friends truck headers just didnt like his heads, the bolts kept backing out, put them on mine when i had it and they were as snug as could be, so we put some locktite on them and they are still holding strong.
