This car is going 11's this year... Start looking for some DR's.

11s would be great, but DR means new rear as well, lol. I told myself LESS time wrenching more time driving, not the other way around. haha.

Anyone know what I do about my pusrods if i mill the heads?

just get a set of nitto's or bfg DR's and you'll be fine.. i ran them on my 10 bolt for 2 seasons and my 10 bolt was fine.. you have an auto so it is much much easier on the trans

I wouldnt even mill the heads to be honest. The power gain isnt that much if any. Just to give you an idea. The lq4 9.4 to 1 compression ratio vs the lq9 10 to 1 compression ratio. The engines are identical down to everything besides the pistons. The lq9 only makes 10 hp more and 10 ft lbs of tq. Slap new head gaskets on it and run it as is. You'll be taking a lot of time with the milling, piston to valve clearance, then buying new pushrods. I just dont see it being worth it. If you were drag racing and searching for every little bit of power possible it would make sense.

wow that motor is clean as hell, nice find Spencer. If your set of milling the heads then just make sure you do it right and clay them for clearance afterwards and measure for proper pushrod length. I would say your rear would be fine with a set of radials especially on an auto and if your that concerned go with Nittos they are the least sticky and last 15K on a set.

              Port the heads.
You will see a much better gain in power. Only good reason to mill the heads is to true the surface if they are warped.

If you mill the heads don't you have to do the same to the intake if you go far enough?

Milling the heads .030" is A LOT. It can casue some issues with other things if you're not prepared. I would personally not mill them at all, or just take them in and have them PCD milled to ensure flatness. You should measure for pushrod length either way seeing its a different cam, things can be off and incorrect length pushrods are not good, especially critical on an LS motor

I'm not that set on milling the heads, but I figured if they were off, why not. Maybe ill call some junk yards today and see if any have a set of 243s or 799s that came off of an 07+ 5.3 or something.

I've had this car torn apart way to many times now, I'm just getting sick of ripping the thing apart every year. That's the only reason I'm dead set on doing SOMETHING with the heads, just want to do it all and get it done with. Next year, no wrenching.

Someone want to part with some heads?

Found some ls2 243s on craigslist in ortonville, might call them later, didnt really want to spend 400, or half that, but I need to get rolling on this.

Whats going to be the realistic difference in power between the 317s and 243s? Are we talking 15hp or 40hp? I dont want to be disappointed with the results and end up wanting to tear this thing apart again....
