Are you going look into a port job or even a home port job?

Like I said earlier, a half point of compression is only good for about 10 hp aand10 ft lbs. Not worth it IMO but, its yur build. Its just money.

Yeah I'm with Shawn on this esp. since your using the TR224. If you were going with more Cam then maybe the extra compression would be more worth it.

            317 are 243's with a big chamber
1 full point would probably only get 10hp
Big dur and overlap cam would pick up a few more

243's are 243's right? Doesnt matter if they are LS2 or LS6 as long as they have the casting number?

some did. Only true ls6 heads had stainlesss steel valves and the exhaust valve was sodium filled.

                    LS6: intake = 73 grams, exhaust = 65 grams
                    LS1: intake = 101 grams, exhaust = 94 grams.

Fair enough, thanks for the info. If I can get the 243s cheap ill go with those, if not ill run the 317s.

I was looking for the 400mark, but ill be thrilled if I can get a 11.99pass.

Dont get caught up on dyno #'s. There was a member here who's car only made 360 threw an auto that went mid 11's.

So what valves can you buy, aftermarket, that are about the same or better than the real LS6 valves?

Can't wait to see what I can do (after I get a new rear).

Spencer I don't think you'll be disappointed after stepping up .7L with rings that actually seal.

Well don't overlook the basics, if you put more compression on top then you really need to rebuild the bottom end. The bearings have to take all the new hp stress. If you mill or change heads you are starting down that slipry slop, you should redue the bearings aswell. Just my opinion.

Got the engine and trans separated yesterday, along with all the accessories off of the 5.3 and the 5.3 out of the kmember on to its temporary home where all the rest of the parts(cam, pan, pickup tube, etc) will be harvested.

No progress today, had a massive headache, I could have sworn someone beat me in the head repeatedly with a baseball bat without my knowledge.

Flip side is I contacted one of our sponsors and will be picking up a set of 243s tomorrow for a very reasonable price! Going to have the heads checked, get valves and springs put in and we will officially have all the parts for the 6liter!

Thats gonna be 11 to 1 compression with 243s. I wouldn't take it out and beat on it at all until you get it tuned.
