    • Yep you know the block can't be bored as Larry mentioned and that does seem like a lot to me. Look around and you'll see you can find brand new forged shortblocks from shops for right about that price.

That's because of the head options and a few other options on the engine. I don't think its the shortblock itself that makes the 98's so undesirable.

def or just get a bare block and buy a stroker kit since they are so cheap now usually around 1500 when i bought mine last from SDPC, and i got a bare block for 100,with machine work my short block put me right about what hes quoted at lol

                • I agree, I spent so much rebuilding this LS2 that I could have went stroker right off the bat for a few hundred more and some more down time. I'd say its worth it. Then you can go with big heads and cam down the road to optimize it all.

Phil told me that rod bolt failures are so rare that we don't really have to worry about it. I'm spinning to 6700 and he said I'd be fine.

Forgive me for not reading the whole thread, but if you are doing all this to an LS1 block, you should have them shave the chunk of metal off of the protrusion in the valley cover area so you can do the LS1 valley cover conversion for the better crankcase ventilation system.
