Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

well I went out to the garage today and disaasembled the motor a little more. removed the ls1 heads, headgaskets, motor mounts, valley pan/plate, oil pan, pickup, and windage tray. most of that will go to work and sit in the hot tank for a while to be cleaned up. i so badly want to pull the main caps and check the bearings since im this far into the teardown, but dont want to open up a can of worms. i dont have the extra funds to replace rod bolts and rings even though i know i should. well heres a couple pics and i even sat the new LS6 heads on to show you, lol.
well my 3.73s are in and so is the rebuild kit for the rear diff. rear sat in the hot tank and should be being assembled today. should be able to reinstall it this weekend. now to get the rest done
Cool. What were your headgaskets like when you pulled your old heads? Did you have to scrape anything off of the mating surface?
I'm assuming that threads have to be cleaned as well but what thread are they?

very nice I didn't know you were familiar with setting up gearsets I need to learn how. Also Vinnie to clean the bolt holes you can just use an old head bolt and grind two sides flat. The prevent getting coolant everywhere I recommend taking a shop vac to the waterpump openings after its removed and the heads will come off one dry
my headgasket came off pretty good. i did clean up the surface though with some soft 3m cookies and a grinder, being careful not to take any metal with it.
oh yeah my rear diff is going home with me today so it will be re installed this week.
anyone need some stock 3.23s. i was amazed at how good they still look

Vinnie your going to need to scrape and prep the surface regardless of what it looks like when you take the old gaskets off. You need a perfectly clean and smooth mating surface to ensure proper sealing of the gaskets.

The shop vac method works wonders. Just suck everything out of the water pump holes before you pull the heads and you will save yourself a lot of mess for when you take the heads off. Almost no coolant should come out when you pull the heads if you do it this way. Its still good measure that you at least tampon all the bolt holes tho. Last thing you want is to crack your block while torquing the heads.

This is the tool I used to remove mine last summer...http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/tools-...tool-pics.html
pics are in 1st post.. Original seller no longer frequents tech, but on the last page, post 402 there is a guy selling the same tool for 45 bucks.. I know you would rather borrow something, but thought I'd throw it out there..
