Trans fluid should leak from the tailshaft housing when the shaft is removed, it shows that the driveshaft and tailshaft are being properly lubricated, so thats a good thing, not bad.

Disconnect the front 2 brake lines from the abs block, one is on the top, the other on the back.

Also, regarding the driveshaft, paint it if you want, I didnt, the only reason to "upgrade" to an aluminum driveshaft would be less rotating mass. But technically stock for stock, your steel one would be stronger.

Bigger volume oil pan is just that - allows you bigger volume. Generally people get a high volume pump but make sure you get a high volume pan to go with it or else your oil pump will suck the oil pan dry.

Like was said though - you can either disconnect the shift cable at the transmission (held on by a nut) or you can pop it off of the shifter. Either way is decently easy - if you pop it off at the transmission make sure it's 100% free and clear while you're dropping the trans and engine out / raising the body up away from the engine and trans. We didn't pay attention to it and the cable got snagged on the trans and really twisted the heck out of the bracket that it goes into.

exactly what brian said about the oil pan. more oil in the system is always a good thing for a hard working engine. The only thing it "allows" you to do is run a high volume pump.

answer to questions:
1. best to disconnect trans cable with the arm attached, loosen nut on shaft coming out of trans. Reason nylon on cable end gets brittle from heat then breaks when you pop it back on. Also be sure to take bracket off the trans that holds the cable, tie it up to side out of way.
2. on the lt1 antilock the 2 front lines are what you need to disconnect. they are on the side of the unit, the 3rd line is the rear you can leave it. Becarefull you don't strip the nuts they are soft. Almost better to put vice grip on brake line nut and give it a sharp wrap, then once it breaks loose you can use wrench. On B's we stripped both nuts and I used a tubing wrench.
3. We were able to get bolts at ACE hardware. just be carefule there are a real mixture of metric and sae threads
4. A word of caution I would build the 11 rows of 2x4's lincoln log style to rest the car on after you get engine out. much more sturdier than jack stands, and higher. You need about 34" clearance to slide engine out on dolly
5. there is a good thread that goes through bottom removal in tech section.

it looks like it just remelts it back to its original or maybe darker self. Wonder how hot you have to get the gun and what not, looks very interesting
