  • No. In my case its just snugged around the base of the shifter. Not the ideal setup but it wouldnt work any other way for me. Maybe Jim can chime in with his experience.

    • I have the Hurst Billet Plus and it is supposed to require the same modification as Joel's did, but it came with its own boot to cover the mechanism unlike what Joel had to do to his Pro5.0. I managed to install it without cutting the factory boot though but it was a squeeze. I've never used a Pro5.0 before, but I know not all of the aftermarket shifters need it to be cut like that. Personally I'd give it a shot without cutting first, then if unsuccessful do the cutting.

      • Maybe I'm just confused lol. Did you see how small the hole is on mine? Post 2085. Do you out the trans in and then the boot? Picked up the flywheel. Looks brand new.Any suggestions on a tune? PCM will do a reflash on my chip for $50 but they don't have the best turnaround. Ill be down from the car for awhile. Think I can send my stock chip in?

The PROM chip in your car now is not re-programmable, it will require a new one. Their turnaround is better than they advertise, at least it has been in my experience. My '93, I ordered the tuned PROM, and had it in the car less than 3 weeks after the date I ordered it. If it's just a simple trans swap they are tuning for, there shouldn't be too much of a wait, unless Alvin is backlogged at the moment.

3 weeks is crazy. Why do they need my prom then? As a core? I really don't want to wait longer than a week...

              • I'm confused as well so I'm not sure if this would help, but I'm pretty sure I have a 93 computer sitting around that you can have so you can send it off without being down.

Thanks for the offer but if they will accept that one they should accept my stock chip. I need to call them Monday.

                  • Take a picture of the PROM that they sent. Depending on what the setup is, I have the equipment to flash new chips (I use SST 27SF512 28 pin chips)

Outta town until tomorrow. Would you be able to use the tune off my current prom?

                      • I don't see how they could encrypt their tune (it is binary) so I should be able to read it just like a stock prom.

Stick and manual tunes are a bit different though. I'll have to get a A4 and M6 stock tunes to compare...I'm willing to bet the spark tables are different.

Why would the spark tables be different? Why do I need to swap it to a 6 speed?

                          • Spark advance VS calculated load is usually a little higher in the low RPM (very low, 400-600 rpm range from what I've noticed) just because A4 cars never see that while running.

Knock retard settings are a little different, again because it can see lower RPM. Volumetric Efficiency is very slightly different, same with BLM, DFCO, AE, etc. Nothing major. You could run your tune with the M6 if need be.

I'm looking them over right now, by the looks of it I could change a A4 tune into an M6 tune in about ten minutes. Do you have a log file with the PCMforless tune?
