Jegs has a bracket that bolts to the pump and clamps around the pickup tub. That is what we used on the new pump so if tack weld breaks your still ok.

That's exactly what I was thinking of.
Is this it? If so I'm ordering one.

Edit: ended up buying it. Good piece of insurance. Still going to weld the heck out of it though.
Should have everything for the bottom end now. Then I can flip it, do the timing chain cover, lifters, heads, intake, WP (I believe)
I think the next 4 things I'm going to need to purchase are:
1) Opti :/
2) valvetrain
3) head gaskets / intake gaskets
4) head bolts
Still unsure what I want to do with the heads. I really want to send then to LE but can't justify paying that much right now. The trans is going to eat a good chunk of change. And it's much easier to pull the heads than the trans next winter. I still want to get a tubular k member.Last edited by mcalus; December 24th, 2011, 11:15 AM.2002 Z28 Camaro A4

That's the bracket I've seen before. I'd probably put a little locktite on the bracket's bolts if/when you install one.

It should be sitting at my door step.Originally posted by jderry View PostYou got that little end cap? The oil pressure saver?
Pro-jection on ltxtech aka wicked94 on ls1tech, was the one who made and sold them. I have PMed, posted on his profile, email and called. He clearly is avoiding me. I'm guessing he doesn't want to sell any anymore...idk. I ended up finding one a guy was getting rid one. I have been trying to get one for a month...2002 Z28 Camaro A4

Finally got to work on it today!
Installed:
Oil pump
Shaft
White spring
Pick up tube
Windage tray
Jegs pick up bracket
Apparently they used 5/8" oil pump in 93. Got the pump on, went to put the pick up tube in and it was as tight as a slut. o_0
So quick run to Murrys, got a 3/4" tube. It's a bit different than the stocker but it should be good enough.
Forgot to put white pressure spring in so off the oil pump cap goes, knocked out pin, out with old, in with the new.
The engine builder put a regular 350 timing chain and gears on so the cam gear didnt have the hole for the opti. Hopefully I can get just the one gear because the lower crank gear should be the same. As for the chain.
The dowel on the cam sticks out about 1/4 of an inch out too far and hits the timing chain cover so we are going to have to grind it down a little. Not sure whats up with that...
Still need to weld up the timing chain cover then on goes that and the oil pan.
Pictures!

Also, I don't think there is any reason I need to plug that hole where there was the water pump drive unit.Last edited by mcalus; January 1st, 2012, 07:18 PM.2002 Z28 Camaro A4

Go figure. I had to buy a whole new timing set. $100 later.
He said I could get just the gear but it was a GM part and it was going to cost close to the same as the whole set for just the gear.
Dropping off the timing chain cover after work to get welded.
Hopefully take the heads in later this week to get milled.2002 Z28 Camaro A4

Since you have the pin drive for the opti you could go with 95-97 vented opti. the 93 has a different drive I believe it is a spline drive.sigpic

Pin drive? Is that why the dowel on the cam is so long? What would I benefit from switching and what would I need?Originally posted by Plum Nuts View PostSince you have the pin drive for the opti you could go with 95-97 vented opti. the 93 has a different drive I believe it is a spline drive.2002 Z28 Camaro A4

Guy has a set of Diamond chromoly 7.2" pushrods for $50 with 7k miles
Are these hardend? Is this a good deal? What are they new?
Also has a set of comp Pro mag 1.6 NSA rr's with 7/16 studs and guideplates for $200.
Will these both work? I'll be milling the heads .020 and using the impala gaskets.
Thanks!2002 Z28 Camaro A4

Personally, I would measure the pushrods just to be 100% sure. If you need a different length, I got a nice set from Trend that I think were in the $75-100 range but I'm not 100% sure as it was a couple years ago.
Pro mags are generally regarded as a very good rocker.
