Target date is put the engine in now July 14th. Just kidding but the way he keeps buying more "stuff" makes me wonder. I would like to get engine in this weekend 3/21. then finish up connections and fire up on 3/28. then run over get front end alignment done, then run it up to Steve to tune 3/28 or 3/29. Then pick up from Steve when he's done hopefully by 4/8/2009. That is if it don't rain and the creek don't rise.Last edited by 98blackbeauty; March 17th, 2009, 12:59 PM.sigpic

Definitely - that's one thing that we're having fun with is that we're pretty much winging it. If we get stuck, then yeah I google and look up information but reusing a bolt never in a million years would I have known that I couldn't reuse it. Guess I should've known when it had that really stupid torque method - "Torque it to barely anything, and then turn the torque wrench X degrees" I was like WTF? Just give me a friggen ft/lbs to torque it to and be done with it.
And yeah, I'll throw up the this weekend's post right now for the weekend so everyone knows for sure.Last edited by meissen; March 17th, 2009, 01:17 PM.- Brian Meissen

I believe it just means that the bolts are torqued until they stretch making them not reusableDoing less with more

One use.Originally posted by my95z28 View PostK, time to make myself look stupid, what is torque to yield?
Tighten all to torque in sequence. Turn 90* in sequence, Turn another 90* in sequence.
They're tightened past their elastic region, into the plastic region and do not return to their original length after being torqued.

Yeah, it's really stupid how they're torqued down. First you go through and torque all the head bolts down in sequence with a really freaking light torque rating IIRC. Then you go through each bolt again and turn the bolts like 145 degrees or something like that (on the LT1) - kinda annoying when you're reading torque specs and then see "turn 145 degrees"
Once you turn the X degrees, you're done.

Yeah thats the easy way to do it, because technically your suppoed to use a torque angle gauge and do it that way.Doing less with more

its actually not a stupid method at all. The sequence is not only for the bolts, but to insure that the gasket is properly compressed. if you torque one side all at once, theres a good chance youre going to have a leak, or blow a head gasket in no time.Originally posted by meissen View PostYeah, it's really stupid how they're torqued down. Oh no, I understand the method of going through an order of torquing the bolts to ensure that the compression is even, but they still could have given me a solid ft/lb to tighten to without having the angular degree to torque after putting it to a ft/lb... does that make sense? Not sure if I'm describing it correctly.Originally posted by JoeliusZ28 View Postits actually not a stupid method at all. Instead of:
Torque all bolts in order down to 33ft/lb
Repeat same order, turn an additional 145 degrees
Do:
Torque all bolts in order down to 100ft/lb
That's what I mean.- Brian Meissen
