Cool, one of the guys I work with had his bike (as in bicycle :lol) frame done there, and it looked great.

Ryan mentioned Dynasty Powder Coatings (formerly C&S, I think). So I'll contact both.

    • I had the pipe for my CR250 coated at QC and it turned out great. Price was very reasonable too.

      • QC coating screwed up a few parts of my dads when they were sandblasting them but that can easily be blamed on a inexperience worker. I have not delt with them personally but I hear good things about them.

I don't see how ceramic coatings will protect the inside of the tubes as coating is sprayed on. Myself I would have to debate what the cost of another header in 4 years vs R&R the current one plus $ and to be without the car for a few days.

A quote about storing cermanic coated parts...
"Then coat the headers with WD-40 or an equivalent where the tubes are welded to the header flanges and where the tubes come in close proximity to each other (Especially where the four tubes enter into the collector). These areas are prone to rusting as the coating is unable to get between the tubes in the unexposed areas of the header. If rust occurs, it will travel into and under the coating and create a stain."

edit my bad, I thought you already had a headerinstalled.

        • Just out of curiousity-why don't you just buy a stainless header? LS1 stainless headers can be had for around 200 on ebay, I can't imagine a cobalt header would be even close to that? Instead of all this hassle it seems like going with a nice stainless one that will last forever would be a better option-not to mention cheaper?

Because of the deal I got on this - and generally those headers are pure shit. A lot of guys have fitment issues with those.

I'm leaning towards just POR-20ing it, because no matter if it's ceramic coated or painted, it's gonna rust eventually...and going with a stainless long tube in a few years.

                • Haha, I think I'm just gonna rock some POR-20.

Now, I wonder if an 8 oz will cover the header (I'm going to have it sandblasted), probably will do one coat since I don't have access to an over to bake it, think that sounds about right?

How much did you get, Jeff?

                  • I still have some left over from my 8oz I bought. I have coated my headers twice and a buddys once.

                    • Perfect, then I know what size I'm buying! Says it's pretty resistant to salt/weather...If I can find an oven, I'd love to do two coats.

Will probably not coat my downpipe, since it's stainless.

                      • try and find an oven. I'd be willing to bet that having it baked on would only hold up better. wish I would have done that to mine.

                            Thanks for the help, Jeff!
