    • Definitely getting an electric heater for the garage. Or not using any. Buddy and I both got a sore throat after 4 hours of working in the garage.

      Shined some more things up.

      • Do the propane one. I don't think the electric one is going to be able to keep up with the heat loss from insulation.

The propane one like I have is still "forced" but not absurdly loud, nor does it try to kill you.

And make sure you fill the tank up somewhere that sells propane to get the tank completely full for less than the cost of swapping the tank - which only gives you 15 lbs.

        • Can anyone school me on lifter trays? I?m reading a lot of mixed reviews on replacing them or not.

I also have mixed feelings on if I should get the heads ported or not. I have been reading stuff on tech how they are great ported heads and I have also read that they barley put preform unported 243s. I know porting a set of 243s would be my best bet but I?m trying to draw the line in the sand somewhere. Lloyd claimed 35-60 rwhp gain from getting my 241s ported while keeping my stock valves.

          So my options:
          $600 stock valves, ported heads
          $800 bigger valves, ported heads
          Free, don?t port
          243 heads
          Other heads

Also my friend thinks I should just pull the motor at this point. My deck would be easier to clean the old head gasket off of. Easier to torque the heads, I can replace the oil pan gasket, install my stall at the same time.

Opinions? I mean how far away am I from pulling the motor? A few bellhousing bolts and my ac pump?

          • Also anything wrong with using stock (new) headgaskets? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-12498544

            • I believe the stock head gaskets are MLS, correct? If that's the case, then those would be plenty good. Christ, they're good enough to be almost reusable. I've reused the stock MLS exhaust gasket on my Cobalt like three times.

              • If you had 243 heads it would be a guess if porting would pay off. The $600 to do your heads would be my first choice. It just depends on how important that last 1-2 tenths is to you. If ultimate performance is the aim, spend $1600 for aftermarket heads.

                • That?s the thing, it?s just a weekend car and I know dyno numbers don?t mean anything but my ultimate goal is 400rwhp and high 11s.

I ended up buying headgaskets, LS7 lifters, ls2 trays, and the ls2 timing kit.

                  • You should be able to hit high 11?s with stock heads with the converter and camshaft. In reality, there are very few ?true? 11 second cars on the road. There are many that should be capable of it but with the owner they have, it isn?t going to happen. What are you planning to use for an intake manifold?

Sticking with the stock ls6 for now probably upgrade to a fast 92 down the road.

                      1 3/4 or 1 7/8? longtubes? Are the 1-7/8 really worth it?

                      • You might lose a few ft-lbs down low with 1 3/4? but you will make up for it up top especially since you have the big converter.

Bought the oil pump, WP, front cover gaskets and valve cover gaskets today.

                            • Getting close. I would consider doing something other than a mail order tune. Not sure who is out your way but I?d do some research.

                              • I'd only do the mail-order tune to get it running enough to bring it to Dr. Phil.
