  • Dex got a bad rap because it attacked intake gaskets when it first came out but that was over 20 years ago. I haven't heard of any issues with it since then

          • Day 2 into this thing and I?m ready to burn the ***** to the ground lol. Any suggestions on getting this lower trans line off? Using a line wrench and it?s starting to strip. Thought about cutting it at the straight part and using a rubber line and a clamp since I?ll have to re route somethings anyways for the aftermarket trans cooler.

            I never have good luck with vice grips and there isn?t much room for them anyways.

            Suggestions?

              I did a little researching and I don?t think it would be much different if I cut it and just added some rubber line and a fitting later. Basically the same thing that they give you in aftermarket trans coolers. Also I can replace both lines when I install the stall.

              Another question, what should I do for tuning? I was going to do a mail order until I work out any bugs but is my trans going to be all over the place if I tune it with a 4000 stall and not have said stall installed? Basically once the cam is installed I?ll be driving it to my co workers to put the stall in (~25 miles one way). Not sure at what point I should have the mail order done.

              • There isn?t a lot that is changed for a converter in the tune, mainly raising rpm limiter so you don?t hit it on shifts.

                  • That trans line is a PITA, it's the same way in the LT1 cars. Maybe take a cheap wrench, heat it up, and bend it to get a better angle on it. Crescent wrench really won't work, end wrench is all you can do. It's probably stripping because you really aren't on there perfectly.

                      Yeah at this point I?m just going to cut the line so I can carry on. I?ll either use a rubber hose until I can replace it when I do my stall or I?ll use a compression fitting or something.

                      • Once you cut it, then you can get a 6 point socket on it. If still loose, try it's metric / English counterpart.

                        • Cleaned up the water pump. Added a 160 degree stat.

                              • Made some really good progress lastnight.

                                Removed the coils, and brackets, exhaust manifolds, power steering pump, radiator.

                                Someone broke the drivers rear manifold bolt so it?s a good thing the heads are coming off.

                                I was going to remove the intake but I don?t have a fuel line disconnect tool so I?ll grab one from work.

                                The cam kit came in the mail yesterday
