I feel I need something different, im running just as old of a cam myself, good ole' TR224. I think im leaving a lot on the table with that cam.

You can say the same thing about a TR224. But the fact is its old technology. All the new lobes out today are far superior to the old XER lobes IMO.

Then again going with anything short of a custom cam spec'd specifically for your combination is a waste. Again IMO

im right there with yah. never understood why someone would lay good money down for a shelf cam when they could save $100-$150 more and buy something that ment for there specific apllication.

Alright, what plugs should I use?

If the calc I used online is right compression should be close to 11.8:1


Would a TR55 at ~ .048 still be good?


Also, do you guys think I should get all MSD stuff: cap, rotor, wires, and coil?


I don't want to have stuff with unknown miles fail and down my car.

personally with optis ive ran threw a few, different brands and such. best luck with the lifetime warranty one from autozone. plus when it takes a crap ive gotten it down to a couple hour science. not saying they are bad but my first msd last a 1/4 to the main road threw my subdivision before it took a dump. wasnt impressed.

Was it the whole Opti or just cap and rotor?


I have a GMP opti, which has less then 10,000 miles on it, but my cap and rotor are unknown

the whole opti, i actually rebuilt one with a cap and rotor from autozone and lock tight and its seen its fair share of 5800+ and held up thus far.

Questions about water pumps:


Mine does not leak, does not seem to have much play in the shaft, should I replace it?



Is there a good way to deal with the weep hole? Plug it? Weld it? Put a nipple with a hose leading elsewhere?

Why would you plug the weep hole, im confused.....

Some people reconmend it to prevent it from leaking on the opti, I think I might just route a hose from it.

I would deff not plug it, just means that when it fails you wont have any sign, and failure could be more catastrophic.

That's why I was thinking run a hose to elsewhere from it...

IMO:

Opti: I have a CMS opti that kicks ass. Its half covered in oil and still works perfect with quite a few 6000 rpm shifts. 90 bucks for the entire assembly. DO make sure and get some new seals though, I didnt and regret it. No matter what you do its still an opti and your limited to design. I would stay away from MSD.

Wires: I have your basic cheap set from autozone, works fine. Who ever says you HAVE to have expensive wires is on crack. My car pulls plenty hard for what it is, I think you would do just fine with cheap wires. They are probably made in the same factory anyways. I put TR55, and switched my delco wires to the autozone and noticed no difference. In my head, its better because its fresh and new.

Coil: IMO only replace this if yours isnt working.

Waterpump: IMO only replace this if yours isnt working. I do keep a spare in the basement for when not if mine goes out.

All my stuff has 170k on it and still works fine.

Weep hole: run a clear tube. Use clear that way it will be more obvious if there is something coming out it(should be green). It may turn slightly yellow but I would still go with clear.
