A new gear at Jegs is like $15, so I would get a new one. A new one will mesh better with a new cam gear.

      • If I remember right it's called the distributor gear. It might be more like $40, I will see if I can find my Jegs paperwork.

Is there a GM part number?

                        • Should I get a stock replacement Melling oil pump?
                          They're only $22 at autozone.

                          • Stock is fine for a stock oil pan. Only run a high volume pump with a deep well or youll suck it dry. High pressure is fine but youre accomplishing the same thing with the spring mod on the stock one.

                            • I was asking about a stock one.
Just to have a new one in there.

I know HV pumps are a no no on these engines.
