Agreed, however if he was going to do that - that would eliminate one of the big reasons for not going with a wilder h/c setup. In this case he should be fine with a fresh opti which will keep the budget in check. Things snowball in a hurry once you start going beyond a cam-only setup in an LT1. In the long run, if he wants more power I would recommend converting to 24x prior to changing the heads/cam again. Foundation mods first

I have no room to talk, I'm still running a Dynaspark opti, but any reason to get rid of an opti is worth checking. For budget reasons^^^ this is exactly right.

        • The actual Opti I have is a GM unit with ~7,500 miles on it.
The Cap/Rotor came with my donor car.

I was thinking a MSD Cap/Rotor/8.5mm wire kit?

If it only has 7,500 miles on it, I would leave it as is. I have never messed with MSD cap/rotor, but I have heard they are decent. I had MSD wires and had some arcing issues and changed to Magnecor wires and have had good luck with them, plus they're a Michigan company.

I don't know how many miles are on the cap/rotor. The actual distributor has 7,500.
I got it for free new, the cap it came with was damaged.

Yeah, I would change it then, either MSD or delco and you should be fine. I have seen a lot of guys when they do cap and rotor use the high temp rtv sealant on the cap and that is how my dyna came too.

                  • I have a billet MSD opti with about 7000 miles on it. When I pulled the cap it looked like the rotor was backing out and tearing into the cap. Change the cap and rotor while you have it out. Loctite the screws on the rotor.
