Installed a vacuum gauge in my pillar pod last night. Used an uncapped vacuum port (aka, vacum leak
) i had found a while back. I was expecting to have to modify the tune to get it to idle right again with the gauge installed. To my surprise the pcm self adjusted. Overall im impressed with the gauge, i think its an underrated glimpse into whats going on real time. Wish id have done it a long time ago! Also, with that vacuum leak fixed there were some effects. The car is engine braking slightly harder than (good!) but the idle / cam-lope is toned down a shade (damn!). Guess i need a bigger cam

Having a vac readout is quite handy - I know that side of my Boost/Vac gauge has come in quite handy on more than one occasion. Especially when you glimpse over and notice idle vacuum is sitting about 10 in-Hg than it should be!Gone but not forgotten: 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

So had it out at woodward last night put a solid 100 miles on the car. It was great to have it out again, had a lot of fun but its definitely still missbehaving to some degree in the low rpm and around idle. It kind of acts like a carbed car and "loads up." At first i thought it was spark and i was thinking maybe i need to change my spark plugs too but on the way home it was making a new and very peculiar sound. Also i forgot to mention the car hasnt been starting properly since the fire, i have to prime the pump once or twice now because its losing fuel pressure while its parked. The sound it started making today is fluid like, and sounds like its coming from the other side of the dashboard/firewall. So my theory now is that the fuel pressure regulator got screwed up by the fire... It definitely took a lot of heat. I have a spare rail im going to try swapping on and ill see what that gives me.-Joel

So roomate told me the garage wreaked of gasoline this morning. Just went out and tore the trap door off, there are no leaks anywhere. Something is definitely wrong with the fuel system it sounds like it never pressurizes when i key the ignition on and its making that same funky sound. Guess I'll try the rail next? Im concerned where the fumes are coming from.-Joel

Are your braided fuel lines rubber or teflon? I know that braided lines are known for allowing gas fumes to escape over time and leave a fuel smell in the garage. Maybe it's possible that the heat damaged the rubber/teflon portion inside of the hose just enough to relieve the pressure a bit with no externally visible damage?
Also, did you check the o-rings on your injectors?

So i swapped the rail over from my spare engine (new pressure regulator). I was right about that, the system pressurizes now. But the new rail apparently has bad injectors, because im back to running on 7 cylinders / like crap. So i guess i need to swap those over now.-Joel

One step forward, one step back. Atleast you're figuring it out. Considering the fire, it could have been a lot worse. Happy to hear you were able to make it out to woodward - bummed I missed that!- Brian Meissen
