    • All that Zaino (or insert other wax name here) on the car probably helped keep the paint safe.

      • Cleaned up the mess tonight and got a better idea of what im working with. I am going to need paint on the driver side fender, however its not from the fire. Something scratched the sh*t out of it, probably the guy with the fire extinguisher and I'll gladly take some scratched up paint over losing the car. There are some VERY slight clearcoat discolorations on the hood. Not significant enough for me to care much.

The rest of the engine bay is as predicted. Lots of scorched wiring, yet also a lot of wiring that looks fine. Overall, the engine bay looks like it was left to bake in the Arizona sun for a few years... the whole thing looks really dried out. The hood bumpstops both crumbled to bits.

While I would bet money that the car will fire right up and run once the fuel lines are fixed, the more I look at it the more I want to just tear the whole thing apart and start from scratch... Even if it does run im not sure how much I will trust the wiring, hoses, etc now. Just doesnt seem worth risking after all this.

              • Al's famous deli on 14 / woodward is the reason the car is in my garage tonight. It WOULD have burned down if it wasn't for them. My portable extinguisher wasn't enough... but it did prevent damage. it was that little one I bought from you for $5 back in the day, so thanks Sam! I will definitely be carrying a bigger extinguisher from now on.

                      • Thanks. Might take you up on that still deciding what direction im going to take.... Might go straight to 24x.

And thats always a good idea. These lines held for 2 years so im not sure why they would suddenly let go now.

                            • So this is our culprit. The threaded piece that holds the flare on the rail is completely missing, which leaves one of two possible explanations. 1) the threaded piece backed out from vibration. 2) there was a material failure of the threaded piece.

I can replace this part and be back on the road, however... neither explanations leaves me with peace of mind. These lines were on the car for 4000-5000 miles. The entire point of installing these was to never have to worry about them again. What does mifbody recommend? Can we assume it was explanation #1 and solve it with some thread-lock?

                              • Those are the same fittings I used... I am going to check mine now before driving the car again. But then again I would just let my car burn to the ground, insurance!
