JoeliusZ28 Not quite sure. I'd like to say something like ~100 miles and it started feeling normal again. For a while I was stalling the crap out of it because I was not used to how it would grab, but after it broke in a little it wasn't trying to grab so hard and felt 100% better

Lmao! Yes that seemed to work pretty well for the Spec!Originally posted by c0ncEpT View PostA few 4K side steps with 4 people in the car is always the final step to breaking in the clutch in correctly right Joel?
And good news, it does seem like the shifter has improved some. Definitely hasnt gone away entirely, but its more tolerable at least.-Joel

I dont think the average person would notice an issue. Its definitely a "first world problem" thats purely the result of my expectations being altered by the last 9 years driving a 6-puck clutch.
There still could be an issue with the clutch dragging. I didnt get time to do a couple tests on it this weekend like i was hoping to. We'll see what happens. Hopefully it breaks in or theres a fix.-Joel

Well if it doesn't go away you'll just have to take my car for a spin!! I'm just way to much of a newb with these 6-speeds to really be able to tell! Small update: I've been really busy lately and haven't had any time to tinker more with the car yet, but today Aaron was nice enough to let me drive the purple warbird (stock clutch as far as we know). His car, while it wasn't as easy as my Spec 3, definitely seemed noticeably easier to shift than my car. I'd say it was closer to how my old clutch felt than my current one. So that tells me 1 of 2 things: Either the Competition 3 disc is heavier than a stock disc (unlikely), or the clutch is dragging. I am going to do some tests on it this weekend to check for the latter. Hoping this is the problem and a simple vacuum bleed can take care of it.-Joel

New throwout bearing.
Put the car up on a jack today and checked for drag. There isnt even a trace of it, so the slave cylinder is working just as it should. Is brass a heavier metal than steel? My clutch disc is brass.-Joel

brass is more dense than steel. so yes if they are the same amount of material the brass would weigh more.Originally posted by JoeliusZ28 View PostNew throwout bearing.

The clutch is fully disengaging, so it doesnt seem like it.
It is also entirely possible that this clutch is just lined up and installed so well that all of its mating surface remains in contact with the PP/flywheel at all times and thus drags just enough thats its noticeable over a worn out stocker, or out of true unit (like my old one) obviously was, which was probably only ever hitting 1/4 of the frictional surface until i fully released the pedal.
Someone on tech said they had the same experience with two different of the same Spec 3 clutches. One shifted easy, the other did not. Even pulling everything apart and inspecting, sending the unit back to spec, etc, revealed nothing.Last edited by JoeliusZ28; September 28th, 2013, 03:26 PM.-Joel

Starting to think about the hit list for winter projects, this is what I have so far:
- 24x Conversion
- LS1 front brake conversion
- Change rear springs to BMR, find a way to maintain current ride height
- design battery bracket/strap or relocate battery to the trunk
- Considering a change of rear sway bar to one less firm.
Any other suggestions?
For now I am undecided what I am going to do with my clutch. I may end up changing that to a stage 5, or i might leave it alone.-Joel

Just an FYI Joel. You have seen my car, i have BMR springs all around. the rears didn't really drop much at all, MAYBE a half inch if that. the front did quite a bit, but then again the de carbons i had were blown to hell.
