  • Well the test drive was today! I put about 15 miles on the car, got it nice and warmed up, oil is draining now.

    Observations:

    1) The suspension was a success. The the ride is harsher than i expected, almost uncomfortable in the front... but damn does it perform when you push it. Even going around a corner that was banked the wrong way (outside to the ditch) it was gripping harder than the old stuff ever did. Going straight is an improvement too. No dramatic body roll to the back anymore, it just goes forward. Traction seems like it might be somewhat improved, but it still wanted to come loose in 2nd as before.

    2) My steering wheel alignment is a little off now, but the driving alignment seems good, no different than it was before. Should I have it checked anyway?

    3) I have a pretty substantial RPM related vibration. 4000-4500 RPM kinda scares me like something wants to come apart. Someone told me it could be worn out spark plugs, mine are due to be replaced. Hopefully they are right. I noticed this issue last year too but it seems worse now.

    • Found a thread on tech with a vibration problem exactly like mine... culprit was 2 bad spark plug wires.

I guess if the new plugs I have waiting to go in dont solve the problem, I'll just have to prioritize a 24x conversion

        • I was going to wait until the tint and detail is done, but thats going to be a couple weeks. I should get some pictures this weekend. It looks pretty similar to what the car is doing in my signature.

Thank you for this feedback!!! This is a pretty major concern of mine, and everyone says it's not bad....I am thinking I am not going to be happy with it. If it bothers you, I am sure it'll really bother me. Because streetcar - I am not racing my SS at all

              • Kevin - dont take that to heart just yet. Ive got a bad back and when its bothering me thats the only thing i tend to focus on. The roads by me are kinda rough. I want to get some more miles on it but feel free to come take a ride if you want!

Will do - I haven't written it off yet, but it's refreshing to see an honest comment. Everyone just swears it's "better" - call me crazy, but I believe in the "there's no such thing as free lunch" - there's a tradeoff to them and I have to make sure it's worth it to me. I'll let them break in a bit, and then yeah - I'd love to check them out first hand.

I am thinking we drive on the same roads, so I'd be in the same boat.

                  • Sounds good, I should have the passenger seat back in this weekend

I'm going to get an alignment scheduled as soon as I replace the steering shaft. For now im not concerned about driving it the way it is. It drove straight and and easy at 80mph.

                    • We need to get a datalog session sometime soon too since the one I took last year around the time of the Dream Cruise apparently wasn't working.

Hahaha, I'd like to be a fly on the wall for that. Maybe I'll be a chase vehicle and record it for the community's amusement

                          • I've never seen anyone beat the piss out of their transmission like Joel did... and the transmission seemed to giggle with enjoyment.

I was merely using it for its intended purpose.

Beating the piss out of it would be gear grinding and stupid clutch drops. I just change gear faster than the typical pace
