  • I was going to recommend trying to find the Konis used too, but IIRC the warranty isn't transferable. When it was under $800 I justified it pretty easily because a set of Bilstein HDs + lowering springs costs almost that much and the ride was supposedly better with these. I've never driven on Bilsteins + lowering springs to be able to comment on the difference. Plus I like just a very slight rake which all of the lowering kits don't give you from what I saw at the time and some (like the Stranos) even make the back appear to be lower than the front.

    • I agree with you Jim. The only reason i want to try for the slight rake is because of the number of cars i see that look the opposite like you say... Definitely not a fan. I also have mufflers under the seats that need to stay clear of the belt sander

It looks lile both the SLP kit and the koni/isolator setup would do the trick.

          • im up for giving a hand with fuel and brakes lines or whatever. ive bent some lines a few times before.

if you havent decided already i say stick with the handling aspect and work on tubular everything else later on. ls1 shaft is a great idea, if your brakes arent giving you trouble i woulnt worry about them but maybe put some momney aside for whenever you feel like tackling that, as well as everything else.

            • Thanks Tyler! We'll see what happens, I think this might be a winter break thing now that I'm starting two classes. Will give me some time to stash some more cash also

Does anyone know how I can check for front control arm bushings (ball joints?) for being worn? It looks like there are some rubber pieces in there that are dry rotted and splitting. Just going from memory the last time I had the wheels off. I have fresh tie rod ends and i think everything passes the "shake" test but I want this thing tighter than a freshman girl

              • bushings you pull on them or create some outward force to them, as for ball joints, jack up the car a tad and put a crowbar under and push up, if theres alot of movement then they should probably be replaced. and if you hear popping they are definitely bad.

                • Start checking out more track friendly websites SCCA, NASA.. for used road racing setups. That's the ticket for going fast around corners on a budget. I wouldn't buy used shocks obviously but, used springs and hard parts are fine. You have all winter to find the stuff! It only takes a matter of hours to install it.

Also, read up on what guys did or are doing. Something might seem badass because it's flashy but may not actually help you.

Thanks I appreciate it Larry, but I already know those springs are too much drop for me. Not my style and 90% sure it wouldnt clear my hoist. ... Which I park on.

And good point Shawn, Frrax is another one I need to check up on.

                            • Long shot, but does anyone know where i could get some 1LE springs? Thinking those and a set of konis could make for a solid combo.

                              • Going back to shocks/springs, I'm pretty pleased with my setup right now. SLP Bilsteins with Summit springs in the front (I've heard that these springs are Eibach knockoffs, but I can't confirm that 100%) and heater hose mod in the rear:

I got the springs used from another member, and I found the Bilsteins cheapest from WS6store.com. I originally had Summit springs in the rear as well, but I thought the rear sat too low and the ride was beyond awful. As it is now, I'm very pleased with the ride/handling balance (granted I haven't autocrossed it with this setup), and I really like the stance. I also haven't had to roll the rear fenders for my 295 rears.
