  • Well it looks like im done for the year, and right before Nate's wedding too - fuel pump is on its last leg. I am probably taxing the stock unit pretty heavily at my power level. This last one was a delco unit that lasted about 20k miles.

Open to suggestions at this point, but im pretty sure im going to go with an a1000 setup over the winter. This will make it easy to finally get my gas lines out of the freggin way, and i like that its a much less complex system. It will be overkill for my needs but should be reliable and easy to fix. Going to wipe out my budget for suspension though, heh.

    • Have you considered one of the external Walbros? Might be a better option for your power requirements and should be a bit quieter too, yet still external.

I had not, i was wondering if there was a milder option out there. Looks like thats the answer. What size line would that require?

        • The adapter they link to is a 10mm to -6AN, so I'm assuming that's what's closest. Seems like an appropriate size for that pump's application. That's 3/8" if you were going to be using hard line.

edit: Yep, just checked, 10mm is a hair larger than 3/8" so -6AN would be perfect.

            • I take it you're planning on sumping the tank?

Ill check into that. The -8 or -10 that the a1000 was calling for seemed like quite a bit more than i need. Especially when the connection to the fuel rail is only 3/8 anyway (or am i supposed to modify that?)

Already did it the last time. Going external for 2 reasons... Need to relocate the gas lines anyway (pump would be in a better spot), and there doesnt seem to be anyone that makes an entire sending unit for our cars. Which is the only way i will consider another intenal pump. Im not prying that brittle plastic bucket apart a 3rd time...

From what ive read it isnt really necessary on our tanks but i plan on doing it anyway since ill be tossing this thing into corners.

                  • Yeah, -6AN is cheaper too. Yes the stock rail is 3/8" and I don't see any reason to modify it for how your car currently is. They make fittings to interface with the stock fuel rail fittings, and I *think* they make them to fit where the factory hard lines change over into the plastic lines in case you wanted to retain those and not run the new line all the way up to the engine bay. I'm no expert, but I don't see why you'd need any larger than -6AN for what you're doing now.

Also, I'd personally sump the tank if going external. Supposedly some external pumps can handle "sucking" the fuel out of the tank through a pickup tube from the top, but most pumps don't like this and prefer to be gravity fed by being mounted lower than the sump.

                        • why not a bosch 044 pump? or an external walbro.

The a1000 is way overkill man - and it might need a controller on the street.
