  • I guess now that i think about it pinion angle would have an effect on direction of the force applied to the lca. How that would affect things is still a little over my head though

    • ok looking at this some more, the tailshaft seems to be at 4* angled towards the ground. I know a few of you said that ideally the pinion angle should match the driveshaft angle, but that adjustment seems way out of spec per both the BMR and madman instructions. Is a few degrees out not enough to be a serious concern for u-joint friction/stress?

      Right now I have:

      .5* pinion (aimed up)
-3* driveshaft (pinion is below tailshaft)
-4* tailshaft (static, aimed towards ground)

this would be a 2.5* configuration which would be ideal per the BMR instruction. Wouldnt the madman style put more stress on the u-joints? Or does that angle get counteracted during a hard launch?

I also realized my pictures before may not have been clear. My pinion angle was positive, angled up towards the car... not the other way around like concept was calling for.

      • Joel - this is one of those things that everyone has an opinion about.

I've tried quite a few methods. The only one that worked without vibration on my car was midwest chassis's, but the pinion of the 9" is considerably lower than the 10 bolt.

        http://midwestchassis.com/uploads/3/...nion_angle.pdf

Using midwest chassis's method you have -2.5* and are pretty close.

I'd drive it and see how it works. You can fine tune it from there.

        • Thanks Jeremy... I think I'll leave it as it is and see how it works.

Moving on to the front, just got the first strut out:

            • Brakes work perfect as they are... there is WAY too many things to be done before spring for me to even think about adding anything else.

I've always been a night owl. Its kind of amazing, I get 10 days off of work (and school) where I can actually operate on the sleep schedule I like (1am to 10am) and things magically start getting done! Normally id be wrenching til at least midnight but I drank a lot last night and will be drinking even more tomorrow

edit: and I definitely have the typical strut mount rust!

                • I hear ya! I want to scrap my 82- but I need to remove the suspension prior to scrapping it but its covered in snow. It too cold and windy to work outside, so that project is delayed until the snow melts and I can bring it inside.

I hear ya. I had huge plans this winter to get a lot of little odds and ends done, but in two months I still haven't finished my !AIR and !EGR. Too cold and kinda tough with the ankle biter and family/work commitments.

                    • Same boat here. Barely looked at my car in over a month. Between the cold and feeling like the day's over at 5:30pm I haven't been motivated to do shit after work.

                        • If anyone wants a stock fuel pump, I think that one I got from Jim still works, but I never confirmed. (pictured on the table above). Free if anyone wants it.

                          • This is what I am starting. I need to get some metric impact sockets though. Can't get the panhard support bar off to drop the gas tank. Broke my regular sockets.
So hoping to have it out by this weekend.

                            Hard swapping the pumps?

                            • I think its easy as long as the plastic bucket is in decent shape. My stock one was brittle so I remember I fubar'd it. This new sending unit i got from Jim was a lot better, plus i took my time... it was easy and turned out well.
