I used to have a 97 silverado and loved it. It too big to fit in the parking garage back when I was at quicken. Plus the trans was on the way out. With all the rust, I decided to cut my losses. Keep your eyes peeled for me. reg cab, short bed, 2wd

Well yeah there were the 99 classics and 3/4 tons but those are either not what hes looking for or pretty rare.

        I got ya.

But what's this you are saying about a tuner available for '98 L31s? I have a '98 GMC Suburban with one.

At least at the time i had my 98 Z71 the HPTuner suite only supported 98+ pcms. I tuned my own truck with that software. I cleaned up the fuel trims, removed the delay for power enrichment, removed all torque management, and firmed up the line pressure a tad and wow what a difference. That truck went from barely being able to brake torque, to smoke-showing a set of 285 BFG ATs without any help from the brakes. Didnt really add any top end horsepower but the response and downlow grunt of that engine was incredible after i made those tweaks. Really miss that truck...

Wasn't really looking for a 4x4, but this is a pretty sweet truck for the price. http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...77760005&Log=0

There are some pretty stout third gens on here now, so I'm going to need to keep up. I imagine it would suck to swap an engine just to be the slowest out there.

I am 90 percent sold on this motor. http://www.jegs.com/p/Blueprint-Engi...rPage=90&pno=1

                Performance aluminum heads
                Hardened retainers and valve springs

                Hydraulic Flat Tappet
                Duration @ .050'' Lift: 229 Intake / 230 Exhaust
                Lift: .480'' Intake / .486'' ExhaustOther Features:
                New chrome valve covers
                New chrome timing cover
                New oil pan
                Brass freeze plugs

                Horsepower: 375
                Torque: 400

I'm going to mate that up to a SPEC Clutch. Stage 1 or 2. With that and my 9 bolt rear with 3.73s, I should be able to pull right with a 5th gen considering the weight of those pigs.

Yes, i'm going to mate that to my T5 for the time being. Next year I'll T56 swap it.

Thanks for that info. The Suburban could always use more low end grunt, especially when towing. Their current list still shows 98-00 Suburbans with 5.7L.

That looks pretty sweet. Would love to have that kind of horsepower. You'll never be the slowest 3rd gen on this forum as long as I'm here!

Little bit of an upgrade. We will see how it helps. Needed brakes anyway and I got a smoking deal from a friend.
