Mine did too, but the accy brackets were all tack welded together and in pretty scummy shape. If i'm this far, i want it to be right for good when it goes back in. I'm hoping to get all this ordered around tax season. Til then, i'm going to strip that engine, tidy up the garage a bit.. its a big oil slick in there. I nearly fell on my ass twice yesterday.

There are a few things I can do now. Brakes, CC plates, Torque Arm, and removing the rear end. Realistically, this car will be a new car come spring.

Bring them by this weekend! Trade for homebrews! I gave it the college try, but these flywheel bolts are locked in something fierce.

Careful with those... I hung my full weight on a breaker bar once and ended up smashing and slicing the top of my finger open on the flywheel teeth...not fun.

Any advice? Impact wouldn't work. Breaker just spun the bolt.

The bolt is spinning? Are the threads stripped?

Not spinning. The breaker wants to round off the bolt heads. I'm sure the solution is more torque.

Give the head of the bolt a good smack with a BFH a few times to break the threads loose. Also try going back and forth between loosening and tightening if its still stuck.

the ls swap isn't that bad, I've done a couple of them. Easier then you think

Use heat, more leverage won't always work. Might have to pull the crank with the flywheel still on and heat the rear main journal. MAPP gas should do the trick without getting it too hot if you plan on staying Gen I and reusing the crank.

I'm curious what the exhaust options are for LS thirdgens now, stock manifolds and expensive long tubes were the two option long ago. I stayed SBC because I went with T5 and have a convertible, heard too many things about fitment issues.

Thanks for the advice. I do intend to stay gen I for now and slowly rebuild this engine to drop in my next dd. Hoping to find a pre 98 sbac silverado

You mean pre-99? 98 was the best year for the gmt400. Only year you could use HPTuners on the L31 vortec too.

                                What's this?

FYI...There were still GMT400 utes for another year (or two) after 1998. It was a slow, rolling changeover.
