Maybe it's just the angle of the picture, but that turbo looks REALLY low. Yikes

1.) His turbo is Oil-LessOriginally posted by ThreeHonks View PostMaybe it's just the angle of the picture, but that turbo looks REALLY low. Yikes
2.) The turbo in this kit is higher than our standard truck manifold kit which gravity drains just fine
3.) Both top points aside, what is bad about a lower mounted turbo?sigpic

since the drains are gravity feed they have to be absolutely free flowing. even splashing oil in the pan with cause issues. Alot of vettes with turbos run 1/2 quart underfilled of oil to keep the oil away from the drain. The position of the drain into the pan is criticalOriginally posted by Formula Z View PostWhat?

Correct, but as stated:
1.) He has an OIL-LESS turbo (there is no oil going to the turbo or back into the pan)
2.) This turbo sits HIGHER than our standard kit which itself has no issues with gravity drain
3.) You can always run a pump as well if you chosesigpic

They don't have to be gravity drained, many run pumps as well.Originally posted by 1BADAIR View Postsince the drains are gravity feed they have to be absolutely free flowing. even splashing oil in the pan with cause issues. Unsure why we are even discussing this here when this project has an Oil-less turbo
No need to side track a great build thread!

If its an oil-less turbo then that is completely understandable. I'm sure jonny has done his r&d and his placement works well.
I just prefer to have the turbo extremely high. I dont want to even think about having oiling issues, I have seen what happens when one of those things come apart and its not pretty

Right, but these are high enough to still gravity drain, and still be able to fit with the factory radiator and such. Mounting the turbo way up high allows for more mods like a stood up radiator and such that not a lot of street car guys like to do.Originally posted by ThreeHonks View PostIf its an oil-less turbo then that is completely understandable.
