      • Connections were good. The extras were from emissions stuff that was deleted. Got the car to start for a few seconds, and it sounded good.

Until it bent a pushrod. Going to pull the intake and replace the pushrods in the morning, car will be fixed tomorrow, and I'll post vids of it running with the new parts and open headers

Exhaust will be welded up after the work is done on the engine, car will be on the road again by Tuesday. This was a minor setback, but I will recover, and I won't make the same mistakes twice.

        Progress updates to come.

                You called it. . .

heading over in a few minutes to pull the intake and get this crap over with. I'm so done with this project, I don't think I'll attempt it again. I wish I had friends who knew LT1s like some of you guys, I have had a bunch of questions that went unanswered because I didn't have time to ask them on MIFBody. lol

                • Head gaskets trashed. Buddy decided to attempt setting lifter preload "his way", broke one pushrod and bent another, and now I've got a milkshake coming up through the #5 intake pushrod.

The "self-aligning rockers" I installed were apparently NOT SA rockers, which is why they were kicking off the valves. After I replace the head gaskets with the new ones I just picked up, I'll be putting the stock rockers back on. Should still gain a little bit from the LT4 valve springs and new lifters, but the difference will likely be negligible. I'll be starting work tomorrow after work, should have it done in a day or two. Car will be back on the road by the weekend. I'm already broke as a joke, I don't need anything else to go wrong. I have a spare set of stock pushrods, but they are not hardened like the ones that broke were. Oh well, I'll have to get new pushrods when I get some self-aligning 1.6RRs.

If I can't get it done this time, I'm paying a professional to finish the job. I'm beyond frustrated right now.

Yeah, I'm thinking of maybe ordering some stamped 1.6 rockers later down the road, but for now, I'm going back to stock. . .

This will at least give me a chance to port my spare heads and have upgraded rocker studs put in. Just sucks that I have to do the job a third time if I ever get that far with the other heads.

I dont believe i have ever said they were SA rockers.

if you bought the guideplates they would not be an issue and would not cost as much as a new rockers. I believe i had mentioned that when we met a cabelas.

We never discussed whether they were SA or NSA, I just knew they were 1.6RRs. The mistake was my fault, I don't blame you at all. No worries, I'm an idiot. Haha

As far as guide plates go, I'd also have to have the heads machined to use thread-in studs instead of the pressed-in studs. Unless those heads I bought from you already have this done, I'm not sure. I'm still going to install the 1.6's, just have to wait until funds are available for the additional parts needed.

The problem is that I jumped head first into this project expecting it to go well, when I really wasn't prepared for it. I should have done more research, had other work done simultaneously (or before, like head porting), rather than jumping the gun and trying to get it done quickly. The mistake was mine, and I will pay for it. I'm not trying to pass the blame, I'm just venting my frustration with myself.
