Chris, I tried to call you, just got your voicemail.
Have an urgent question, how can I refill the oil with the valve covers removed? I needed to change the oil, got the milkshake drained out, need to put the fresh oil in so I can start the car and adjust the valves, but I'm stumped as to how to fill the oil with the valve covers removed. . . Should I just use a funnel and dump the oil in through the pushrod holes?Nick H.

Something is toast in the engine. Started milk shaking almost immediately after starting the car, and backfired a few times the second time I started it. We're going to pull the engine and trans starting tomorrow, and I'll be buying an engine stand to start disassembly.
Once the engine is out, I'll be towing the car home, and likely start the tear down in my basement.
Im going to be selling most of my guns to finance this project, as well as replacing the transmission. Also going to be selling the bulk of my spare parts and picking up a second job to help pay for things, but the car is down for the rest of the year.Nick H.

madman doesnt use the ground. goes off the chassis. i measure from my subframe connectorsOriginally posted by c0ncEpT View PostI've set it at -2 to the ground on a stock suspension LS1 street car with no vibrations or bad "street manners".
But no need to argue. Everyone uses a different method. Just use whatever your comfortable with.

The driveshaft and crank shaft is irrelevant to pinion angle. The only time the driveshaft comes into play is "driveline" angle.
Set the car at ride height. Set your angle finder on the pinion yoke and set the pinion 2 degrees down.

I'm not worried about pinion angle, I'm more concerned about replacing the engine, since somehow the one in the car wont cooperate with the head gaskets. . .
Last time I started it, it backfired 5 times and the "oil" was spewing out of the pushrods. It landed in the heads and sat there boiling. This engine is done, either a head is warped or cracked, or there's something wrong with the block.Nick H.

I may need a hand when motor swap time rolls around. I'm going totry my hardest to get the car finished before the MIFC cruise on September 30, but unfortunately, it's a race to get the money together, so I can't make any guarantees.Nick H.

no offense Nick but aren't you in this situation in part to rushing this project? You were strapped for time, pressured because your using your buddys garage, low on cash, frustrated and uninformed about the things you were doing. Not trying to bash at all so please don't take it that way but I honestly feel you need to take a step back and evaluate this. Forget making any cruises or events worry about getting the car right so this stuff doesn't happen again. You've gained little knowledge in this process and frankly you don't even know whats wrong with the car to just be going and throwing parts at it.
Remember this is an LT1 camaro its old with lots of miles and personally I think you need to know how to work on one yourself to own one as they tend to have their quirks. I see tons of guys on here almost daily in over there heads on them because its a tough motor to learn on IMO. I would suggest finding a place you can take the car to when you can take your time working on it and as your funds allow, figure out whats up with the car and move from there. Did the oil have coolant in it prior to the head swap?Doing less with more
