if you put the converter on the flexplate then bolt the trans up, you will damage the trans pump....your gotta put the converter on the trans, turn it to the right until you hear it "pop" into place not once but twice

Put the converter on the input shaft and spin it. You will feel it slip down a bit. You can access the torque converter bolts once the trans is in via the starter hole. Make sure when you put the trans on the motor that the converter isn't hitting the flex plate. It should be at least .060-.100 away(torque converter bolts will pull it tight).

If there isnt that gap as you tighten down the bellhousing bolts its very likely you will break the front pump.

make sure to add trans fluid to the convertor before intallation and install the flexplate so the convertor bolts up properly.

It went well! Had my buddy Eric who is a mechanic come over and he basically did just what you guys said. Then him, Kolin, my dad and myself dropped the engine in... results below







We're hooking up all the misc stuff and waiting on some vacuum lines - should be ready to fire this weekend or next week!

And progress Joel?? How long did it take us to put a radiator in... 3 hours? All the little stuff that takes time really adds up! I can see the light though, and it's very exciting.

We obviously didn't get it done in time for my dad to take it out to PA, but it worked out for the best. It was HOT this past weekend, and he was happy to be in his Camaro with A/C
