I always welcome the help but not being shot down. I am doing the best I have with what I have. This is what I have to work with so this is how it has to be done. I don't have a shop I don't have a ton of body tools I don't have a paint booth. I do what I can and I don't mind of because I do the best I can with my two hands and the help and tips from friends who want to help. Sometimes people just have to put in perspective what one has to work with. I know what your thinking I shouldn't have started then well to late now..sigpic

The rules I posted were not directed to you, they are a few rules/ inside jokes when your doing body work. I wasn't trying to shoot you down (I dunno if I wrote it wrong or you read it wrong), I'm glad your working on it. I know your your not an expert, neither am I but projects like this are great as you learn alot. I wasn't thinking "you shouldn't have started" Its your car, if the paint bothered you, it will alway bother you. A year from now you might say I wish I would have or or didn't do_____________ when the camaro was apart. I think that is common with any project. I know if I could do it over again with my chevelle it would have a different engine and the exterior would look like crap.Originally posted by Darren View PostI always welcome the help but not being shot down. I admire your enthusiasm and willingness to tackle the body/paint work yourself. It's the best way to learn. When its all said and done, you can hold your head high and say..."I did that". Which ALOT of car guys can't say. When I tackled my nose repaint a couple winters ago I was in the same boat. It may not be perfect, but I think it looks damn good and it something I can be proud of.....and best of all, it gives me the confidence to tackle a whole body repaint someday.sigpicTurbo Charged LS1/T56

I think you're doing a "bang-up" job! One day at a time. Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither were the Heavens and Earth. (I apologize for the pun. Just couldn't help myself)

Alright Darren Hers a few tips that I can say. Im NOT a expert but I am going to school to make this my profession. Dont try To pop out the dents unless they are very large, just leave them if their are no high spots, fill them with dough. Body filler (as most call it BONDO) is not always a bad thing. Its know to be bad becasue people use it to fill rust holes and what not, and then it falls off 6 months later. If you buy a good brand of body filler (NOT BONDO BRAND) like Evercoat, U-Pol, Crest, etc and use it over sanded cured paint or bare metal. It will never fall off, bleed threw, have pin holes, or any of that crap you can get with "BONDO". So pound your high spots and start filling. You wouldn't believe how much filler is in my car, as well as how much is used to make a show car. Even though I know your not trying to make a show car..... It the best way and easiest way to make it look good. After you think you got it. Buy some 2k Primer SURFACER. (not surfacer/sealer or anything like that) then spary you spots with the surfacer and block with some 150 and see how it looks/feals etc. You may have to do this over 5 times. I have put my whole car is primer surfacer about 5 times so far, along with doing extra sports another 5 times. Im not really good a typing or making much sense. But I hope this helps and could tell you some other stuff along the way,

My whole roof, hood, and door have a full coat of filler on them. It if wasnt for that my roof would never be flat. Now with the filler and how many times iv blocked it. Its WAY flatter that factory along with my body lines are alot sharper and crisp that factory.Originally posted by WMCCjames View PostWhat Curt said. I have seen some very nice "show" cars that start with almost a complete skim coat of filler. When used properly it's a good thing.

Thanks for the compliments and tips guys, really appreciated. Brian I probably took it wrong you know how I am, very proud-full for what I have. I appreciate the tips and I know you made them with helping in mind. If you ever get a free night or times where you'd want to shoot the shit and hang out in the garage your more then welcome. (goes for anyone too!) James hit it on the head, I want and like to say "I did that" so if its not perfect I know it was my two hands (or help from friends).
Thanks for the help with the filler option Curt I like many saw it as a "covering" up fix. Jon has some of the brands that you mentioned and will be trying that on my hood and both rear quarters. The car is overall pretty straight so there shouldnt be a need for too much filler.
On another note I got the bottom of the drivers side GFX off, didnt come off easy and one of the clips broke hope that doesnt cause a huge problem in the future. Pretty dirty underneath the GFX but all looks really solid and just needs a good cleaning.sigpic

well if you had to wait for Jon to come remove the side molding for you, then you probably should take it to a shop for body work, its either you have the PATIENCE to learn from someone that knows how or go to school, practice makes you good at anything. You dont need big money in tools or spray booths, but take a min for someone to show you how to use a grinder, DA, hammer and dolly, any other these tools can do more damage then good specially when you dont use them in the right fashion. This is no means to take a stab or put you down. However the moldings are something I think you could have done by yourself in under an hour, with a drill and an eraser wheel. Just my 2 coins.
If your willing to learn, Im more then willing to show you some of the basic tools and how to use them, also some different techniques you can use in getting the body straightLast edited by Gregs_gsxr; November 28th, 2011, 08:58 PM.'91 Camaro Modded, LSx, House of Kolor Intense White, lowered, GS chrome 18" wheels, 14" Brembo CTS-V on all 4 corners, LS rear end, FP suspension components

Its not that he couldn't, its that Jon wanted to do it and so Darren left it for him. I believe he is capable of pulling this off with a little guidance, but not much more he needs.Originally posted by Gregs_gsxr View Postwell if you had to wait for Jon to come remove the side molding for you, then you probably should take it to a shop for body work, its either you have the PATIENCE to learn from someone that knows how or go to school, practice makes you good at anything. Move on please. Keep your two coins and dont make any more assumptions.
As explained above its JON who WANTED TO do it as it was a inside joke between the two of us, not that I couldnt do it. I am MORE then capable of doing that as well as using a sander and anything else you mentioned. Like many others before you go making assumptions do a little research on who you a judging. K thanks.Last edited by Darren; November 28th, 2011, 11:48 PM.sigpic

In other news since I am determined to keep moving forward another productive night was tonight.
I yes Greg I removed the side door ground effects and the side skirts (GFX Pieces). Jon and I then continued to sand the body and he brought over a good variety of sanding blocks. We block sanded the entire car and then took Curt's and James' advice in using good filler to fill in the dents and imperfections. Pictures are not the greatest but this is the first round. Jon was very pleased with his work on the hood and the small dents that where there are no more. The rear quarters are going to take the most work but so far they are coming out good.
